Octavia mk1 locking issue, more to it?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

First post of many.

Just got myself a 1u estate 2002.

It had a problem that the driver's door wouldn't lock with the fob, but fine with the key.

Actuator I thought.

Now the driver's rear door won't lock with the fob or key.

Is it coinsidence that the rear has gone?

I did wonder if it's the CCM as the carpets have been washed, to find it's mounted behind the cubby hole.

The wife has also said the boot didn't lock once.

I've had a look on vcds and it says intermittent fault with both the doors only.

Do I replace both door locks or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

@Rossey - It's more likely to be an issue with the wiring in the driver's door bellows and/or damp in the multiplug in the driver's door.

It's typical German electronic crap.  I did away with my entire lock in the end and just replaced it with a normal key and lock(the old fashioned way).  It works and doesn't cost you silly money.  The biggest problem with cars nowadays is too much electronics, so many things to go faulty.  Now my passenger side  rear door has decided to randomly stay permanently locked.  It's just one thing after the next,  I just gave up and thought f*** it.   I will probably ditch all the central locking rubbish eventually and just lock the doors with keys.  My drivers side electric window is permanently in the upright position because that was something else electrical that broke.  Also my drivers side electric mirror stopped working so I just adjust it using my hand now and leave it, works well.

@sammyhale30 - I'd put money on it that the issue with your window is a broken glass carrier (plastic) and not the electrics.

I was having problems with my electric windows, issues with certain foors not locking sometimes and my 'remote' locking didn't work either. It was suggested to me also that the control module in the drivers door could be wet (its a common issue apparently).

Today I removed the door card and unpugged the connector for the control module, it was wet through and the pins were getting rusted so I cleaned it all up with electrical contact cleaner spray.

So far the its been locking fine and the windows are working, but I need a battery for the key so I can't test the remote yet.

It wasn't too dificult to get the door card off and on again and the connector for the module is easy to reach too.  Only thing is that I needed one of those star profiled bits for the scews and a bit of ingenuity to get the wee nodule that pokes up through the door card to line up.
