Briskoda scallies and saints - a guide to buyers and sellers

Featured Replies

Bought a couple of things from Eddie-NL and didn't realise this topic existed.

First off was a MDI kit - which arrived as described.

Secondly was a Maxidot set of clocks along with fitting.  Eddie was working late but still made the journey down to mine, fully fitted coded and sorted in less than an hour.

Top notch and great bloke.

Thanks!

Just bought Jonboy984's Nav Trim, top man, sent well packaged, now fitted along with a RCD 510 Dab well pleased.

                      Many Thanks JON

redcupraboy is a saint for sure. Item dispatched quickly and expertly packaged thanks.

DanBoy - Scally

I advertised in the wanted section for a set of Neptunes.  DanBoy replied and I travelled from Birmingham to his workplace in Kettering and bought his wheels.

To cut a long story short, two of the wheels were buckled (and the other two slightly kinked).  I am not accusing DanBoy of knowingly selling me buckled wheels but I specifically asked him before the sale if they were straight and true and he said they were.

I initially sent DanBoy a PM to inform him that two of the wheels were buckled and he sent me a three sentence reply to say he never had a problem with them and he had no money to reimburse me.

I have since sent him a further 2 PM's and 3 text messages in order to amicably resolve the situation but he has ignored every message.  I have been polite in every message, each time stressing how I wish to amicably resolve the situation.  I initially asked for a full refund on the wheels but since have made some enquires and can have the wheels refurbished and the buckles rolled out for £250.  I am not unreasonable and have suggested to DanBoy that if he makes a contribution of say £125; I would consider the matter resolved.  This is a lot cheaper than reimbursement but DanBoy has ignored this message too.  I am really not an unreasonable person and would have been prepared to negotiate with DanBoy if he couldn't afford the full £125.

I really don't know what more I can do to amicably resolve the situation.  I guess my only option now is moneyclaim.gov.uk which is the small claims court.  It is such a shame to go down this route which could end up costing DanBoy £600 - £700 when it potentially could have been resolved for less than £100.

Does anyone (other than DanBoy) think I am been unreasonable?

Was the deal stated as 'sold as seen'?

Unlike buying from a business, you do take a sort of risk from buying privately.

DanBoy doesn't really have any obligation to pay towards the repair, or refund you any money I'm afraid.

The fact that you collected in person will not help your cause too much, as in theory you had chance to check them over then.

Just my two pence!

I hope you can both come to a sensible resolution.

Not specifically sold as seen but I guess all private sales generally are sold as seen. I am just annoyed because I asked if they were straight and true beforehand and he replied that they were. I would never have bought them if they were not straight and true.

I know DanBoy has no obligation to refund or pay towards the repair but as an honest person I naively expected him to do so. He sold them as straight and true when they were not and therefore refunding or contributing to the repair would morally be the right thing to do.

I also didn't expect him to ignore my messages when I was trying as hard as I could to be amicable.

If nothing else, my post #404 is there to warn anyone considering trading with DanBoy that he MAY not be honest in his descriptions and MAY ignore your messages thereafter.

hi mate, maybe take the refurbish and straighten hit on the chin?

I have had to do this in the past when wheel had small buckes on them, I could have asked for some money off but it would have been grief

Maybe put a warning in all the posts/threads that you shared

Bought a set of VRS Alloys from Jonboy984. Top bloke and well trusted [emoji106]

Great that you are happy Sean, at least you got my set of wheels that are straight and true rather than the buckled set that I bought from DanBoy as detailed in post #404!

Just to add to the above.  I showed an interest in the wheels from Jonboy and he kept me informed via pm of what was happening.  As it happened Viper beat me to it but Jon let me know rather than just leave me hanging.

In the end I bought my wheels off RichC and he was brilliant to deal with as well.  There are some good folk on here without doubt but never be tricked into thinking we all have the same set of morals.  Just because we share an interest in cars it does not mean everyone you come across will be as honest as you would be.  Having said that it is always the minority that spoil things in life for the rest of us.

Regards Chris

Bought my MDI kit in December from chrisw880 and it arrived promptly and works well.

Just bought a set of alloys off Brimma today, went down and collected them, prefect condition as described, nice bloke too.

Lloyd55vrs - top bloke all round. Kept me well updated on the bits I was buying and a wicked set of discs and pads appeared, very well packed, in very little time. Can't wait to get some more cast offs next time something gets upgraded [emoji6]

ickleginge - aka Will.

A real saint as he came to my rescue after I missed out on the Fabia HID lights sold in the sale section.

I did wait a couple of weeks, but that was absolutely fine - Will had asked me beforehand if I was OK to wait which I was.

Went out of his way to clarify a few UPS "errors" in deliverying the box, keeping me informed of progress. Phoned me a couple of times also to ensure I was up to date.

Received them the other day and they were superbly well packaged, neat touches like cling film on the front to minimise fingerprints...

Fitted them today and they work faultlessly so far (just need to adjust the beam height).

Thanks Will :)

Fidget, great bloke, went to his house today he had the radio ready near the door to go straight away, had a bit of a chat, paid him, left, fitted the radio and everything worked great. In as described condition no problems whatsoever.

I echo this, when I first got my VRS, he kindly took time out of his schedule so I could alter some stuff on VCDS.  Nice bloke/family too :)

Another big   for Coops, items arrived as described, and so well packaged, they could have gone through a nuclear war without damage. Definitely an easy Saint to deal with.
