Service above and beyond the recommended- for long life of car

Featured Replies

We know that regular service including oil change, filters, fluids, coolant and cambelt changes are recommended.....

Do people have opinion, to ensure that FSI keeps going what are the other parts which would be recommended to keep changing as a preventive measure and at what intervals? .

Change the oil a bit more often. I do 9k / 1 year.

Strip the brakes and clean every 2 years, otherwise the corrosion etc leads to everything sticking and shorter service life.

Thoroughly wash the suspension down after winter (preferably during as well) to shift the salt which corrodes components and leads to broken springs etc.

Well, you say fluids are part of regular servicing but they are not specified for scheduled maintenance on manual transmissions, no coolant change interval either, no petrol fuel filter interval, so those are some likely recommendations for a start...

@xman suggestion of brake attention at least every two years I would agree with.

Wheel alignment periodically,

Other things ,especially around suspension, depend on you attitude as to spending money before something happens,  and how closely you keep an eye on things or if it is just the annual MOTs that anything at all gets looked at.

Then, from there, you get into the land of needing to know the engines derivatives and their vulnerabilities, like the FL TSI EA888 timing chain tensioner, the non FL EA113 cam follower,  etc etc etc...
