Octavia alarm fault

Featured Replies

Hi. Hope you can help out. My car alarm has started to go off on its own for no reason. I've just been out to turn it off again and there was a crackling sound coming from the area of the drivers door hinge, sort of a static on the radio sound.

As it's getting late and it's gone off 5 times in the last 2 hours I've pulled the 5A fuse which has stopped the static sound.

So there's obviously a problem with it, but it's a new problem (only had it for 3 weeks!!).

Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

They do tend to false alarm when the siren unit with battery backup begin to fail. Has the fuse removal stopped the false alarm. Could remove connector to siren unit but you have to remove front driver side wheel and guard liner.

A VCDS scan should be able to show fault and also report last alarm triggers...

The fuse removal seems to have made it go quiet; it's certainly stopped the static noise. My neighbour had a similar problem with his volvo v70 and said pretty much the same thing - failing backup battery.

Thanks. Now to find someone with the computer...

Anyone near me in Cheshire?

Does the 5A fuse stop the alarm going off or does that backup battery jump to its rescue?  My Occy is having a run of probs after 11 years brilliant service and the last couple of days joy have been the alarm going off all the time.

Pulling the fuse seems to have solved the problem completely. Locks fine & no random alarm sounding.

Thanks for confirming Chris :-)  I'll start saving up for a new alarm as that sounds the likely trouble!
