Emissions recall issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

I’m a new joiner but have had Skoda’s for years, need to ask advice ref the emissions recall

skoda have done it without my permission at a Dsg gearbox oil change.

i took my car to the Bristol dealer for the dsg and 4x4 oil change as part of the schedule, have collected the car and noticed the recall on the invoice.

My car is  completely different, very flat, no low down torque. I didn’t request this or want it done, Skoda didn’t ask they’ve just done it.

can it be returned to the previous settings?

or what can I do?

thanks

gareth

Skoda won't return the car to the original software version, the only option is to get reversion done at a reputable remappers. Some have said Shark will do it, I don't know the costs.

Blade motors strike again...

If you can prove that you stated not to do it then they are in breach of contract, good luck with that as solicitors will advise you that even with what seems a water tight case-they have millions to spend and can drag it out add infinitum ..

Now that it is done without your permission and the Dealer has been paid for carryout out work on your car without permission do not let them away with it.

Your property and The Fix is not required and you need to give permission for anything they do to your property.

?

Do you have the paperwork from putting your car in from the servicing giving them permission to do the work you were paying for,  the DSG Service,

and the VW 24 month Trust Building Measure guarantee paperwork.

Be sure that Skoda / VW are made aware of the Dealership Employees actions. http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

As to the DVSA / DfT they seem not to  care, or the Transport Select Committee or the Minister for Transport that are just turning a blind eye to how VW Group behave to get the number of vehicles worked on that helps them look like they are doing something.

That’s fellas

i booked it in with their call centre so don’t have a pre work type agreement

just an invoice showing I paid for gearbox oil change and an foc recall completed in the additional work box

they didn’t ask me?? Didn’t even mention it

even the receptionist seemed unaware

looks like the workshop do it automatically without consent

surely that’s not right??

i love this car

but can’t keep it like this

its gutless must have lost 30/40% power ?

surely they have a duty to return it to its original condition under the consumer act?

i just wanted my gearbox and 4x4 oil changed!!!

They can not install the Original Engine Management which had a defeat device or not which was removed but VW says was not illegal.

But VW have guaranteed no loss on economy, power etc and as you know now there is.

You will have to look for your compensation from the Dealership that carried out work without permission so you can get a 'roll back' done by a non VW Agent.

The Dealerships doing what has been done to you and your car are getting away with this.

VW are allowing it to go on.

I’ve always stated that I don’t want it done when the cars been in but how would you know if it’s been done ???

you’ve noticed a power issue and it’s on the invoice.

Is there something to check to find out if a car as had the fix

Yes on here they give a website you can check

i knew straight away something was wrong

felt like I was towing a bloody heavy trailer

cars gutless

tbis could be my last skoda

im genuinely gutted

i live them

but this was a dirty trick by them

I am always paranoid that they will ruin my car so I make sure I tell them I don't want the update and also put a big sign on the dash so they have no excuse.

@Cideredup

Sorry to hear that :(

I was avoiding dealer like a plague and done all services in a local friendly garage.

You can do rolling road - but as you can't do anymore pre-fix measurements for comparison - you would've to find someone with same year, similar mileage to do.

For £120 you can have it un-fixed - search forum.

Have you had the chance to complain yet?

Be factual, not emotional when you speak / pen the email.

Be sure to complain to the dealer and also Skoda UK. Go to Skoda's website and click 'Contact us', you can email or call them. Be sure they open a case and give you the case number.

Their process has not been followed correctly. How did the car get to the dealer? Was it collected or dropped-off? Both methods require a signature from you. The paperwork will include the work you've agreed to have carried out. Anything over and above that needs to be authorised by you, regardless of whether there is a charge or not.

The problem is not everyone spends time on forums. Whilst this issue is very well documented on here, most haven't a clue. Therefore the paperwork isn't read before signing. Ask to see it.

It's a really unpleasant situation. One thing is for sure, they won't reverse the work done. This leaves you with a few options but being realistic the quickest and easiest will be:

A partial refund on the authorised work carried out to cover the cost of having the emissions fix removed by a local mapping company, roughly £150.

Then vote with your feet and find a different dealer, be sure to leave visible feedback on social media.

As others have mentioned, I check, double check and triple check that 'Do not apply emissions fix!' is written all over the job card, invoice and steering wheel. Luckily my car is well out of warranty so is unlikely to see a main dealer again.

Don't let this put you off Skoda, get the car booked in to have the map changed back ASAP so that you can at least get back to enjoying the car whilst fighting the dealer.

Good luck.

Yes. That means it hasn't been done.

Are you sure they haven't just left the MAF disconnected or something like that?

Actually i would assume you would definitely have a CEL if this was the case

Doesn't mean much, they might not have updated their systems.

To confirm if it's been done, look for a 23r7 sticker in the boot area or to be extra sure, have the car scanned by VCDS or similar and check the ECU software version.

Ok cheers, I’ll have a look

Hi,

Australian vRS owner here.

punched my VIN into the local website and it said no recalls for my vehicle.

Recently had the ABS/ESC recall done and also a fuse plate (F16 burnt) done as warranty gestures.

no recall stickers fixed to vehicle, and no paperwork....

When I punch my VIN into the UK website, it says my VIN has had the update applied!

specifically requested no update.

If i plug the VCDS in, what am I looking for with ECU version?  is there a date stamp to read?

car is currently belching smoke (which appears to be fuel) during active regen.   no smoke any other time so doesn't appear to be mechanical, but appears to be engine management.

any advice would be great.

thanks

The fix was introduced around software version 9971, if it's above this, then it's probably had the fix.

In a VCDS autoscan, it's the number in bold:

Address 01: Engine (J623-CFHC)       Labels: 03L-906-018-CFF.clb
   Part No SW: 03L 906 018 C    HW: 03L 906 018 BR
   Component: R4 2,0L EDC   H24 7100

Otherwise, if you open Address: 01:

vag-com-vcds-ecu-box-code-check-step-3.p

ok heres an auto scan log from 3rd of December 2017

Address 01: Engine (CEG)       Labels: 03L-906-022-CBA.clb
   Part No SW: 03L 906 022 HF    HW: 03L 906 022 GA
   Component: R4 2,0L EDC G000AG  2842

here is an auto scan log from 30th July

Address 01: Engine (CEG)       Labels: 03L-906-022-CBA.clb
   Part No SW: 03L 906 022 HF    HW: 03L 906 022 GA
   Component: R4 2.0l TDI G000AG  9978

Between this time, the car had two visits to the dealer for warranty / recall work...

are these the numbers we're looking for @langers2k ?

thanks for the info!

Yup, those numbers are the software version and it certainly looks like it's had the fix applied.

Not sure where you stand if it's been applied without permission. I don't think anyone has managed to get a dealer to unfix it :-\

There looks to be an earlier update to 5762 that can probably be applied to unfix it by a tuner or with dealer tools.

thanks for confirming my suspicions - which have only just come together today.

Resurrecting this topic as I'm looking at a yeti 170 that has the fix applied.  How can I find out WHEN it was done to find out if any of the 2 year 'warranty ' still has any time to run? I know this isn't the yeti section but the question is valid for any car with the fix applied...

Is it not in the service history?

@tintinandcharlie - there should be a sticker around the wheel well in the boot area, it should have 23r6 and a date on it. That would be when the 'fix' was applied.

If you can't find the sticker and you've got no paperwork, it might be worth contacting Skoda.
