Best Oil for our Kodiaq (mine is a 2.0 TSI 4x4)

Featured Replies

My Kodiaq is on fixed so it was clear from the beginning that I'd only ever be getting two oil changes and a pollen filter (if I'm lucky!) over the two years / services.

The car has just this morning flagged up as needing it's second fixed service 23 days from now. Can't imagine the dealers will be back up to full strength by then though, and even if they are they'll be booked-up for an age to try and catch up...

I was always on the understanding, that regardless of model / engine that nothing over and above the oil, oil filter and pollen filter were changed on either service interval prior to 3 years / 60,000 miles.

So I was on the same wavelength as you, being able to get the second service included on a 2-year service plan when on variable would be a challenge, as the fuel filter or spark plugs and air filter would not be covered under the service plan.

I wonder if these additional service items are now not changed until even later, and therefore a second variable service (upto 4 years or 36,000 miles) still only involves oil and an oil filter?

Its the 'how long is a piece of string' answer because as you know there is no consistancy within VAG. Pointless us even looking on forums because most of us are armchair experts who make up our own rules. And I have first hand experience of phoning around various garages ( no matter whether it be the Audi, VW, SEAT or Skoda's I've owned ) where not only different franchises will give different answers but even garages within the same franchise will give different answers.

My understanding is the following for a 2nd variable because it's the only piece of hard evidence I've found and it's exactly what VW told me when I had a 2nd variable done on my Golf some years back:

I was just a tad sceptical that MrTrilby's dealership done all of that effectively for the price of a simple oil change service. As I say it was a few years back and after much honing around, it cost approx £250 for a 2nd variable (excluded the pollen filter which I fitted myself). As a reference, a basic oil change service at the same garage cost under £120. For arguments sake, you could say 2nd variable costs over double the price. of oil+filter.
