Fitting LED rear bulbs

I've already taken it out and I'll find another fuse to use.

If I cant fix it myself I'll act dumb and go back to the dealer.

Trying to recode it now.

Having purchased a Karoq 1.5 tsi Edition, now awaiting delivery. and reading the sales catalogue and all literature back to front. The Edition model had LED rear lights, I was under the impression that I would get LED rear lights which would incude side lights, indicators, brake lights, reversing lights fog lights and number plate lights. Or am I being too presumptious? Is this another misleading statement from Skoda?

Yes, I guess it could be read as being misleading as it does not state 'Note - the indicator lamps and reversing lamps are not LED but in fact tungsten lamps'. Given the relative cheapness of LED lamps now, I cannot see why Skoda went down this route. Much the same with the glove box light being a tungsten lamps whilst both load area lamps are LED.

Easy, cheap mod though. You'll still enjoy your Karoq though.

Looks good! Any pics of it in the dark?

Just fitted this morning - vast improvement. I can't understand why they don't fit them as standard when the rest of the lamps are LED.

Point to note: when you pull the lamp cluster away from the car, there is (was) a small bit of plastic which comes loose. I don't have a clue what they are but I managed to drop them both into the depths of the rear bumper. The fixing screw with the tension spring screws into a captive nut so it wasn't that that I lost. Any idea's Vectis or Roq?

I fitted my bulbs this afternoon. Look great. Westie it would have been the small plastic/rubber washer on the back of the white screw that fell down. Same thing happened to me luckily managed to have a feel around inside the bumper and found it. My advice to anyone doing this mod would be you don't need to fully unscrew the white screw leave it a rotation or to and the washer will not fall off. Great guide to follow tho. :)

Thanks Jason, that's that mystery solved. If I ever need to take the light clusters off again I'll have a better fish around. It's a great mod though isn't it. Probably not the done thing, but with the auto box, you can put it in reverse (with the hand brake on) and get out and have a look at the LED's illuminated.

Yeah it certainly makes a difference. As many have said ... the way it should come from factory.

To add to this, does anyone know the size bulb for the glove box?

Mine came today, quality items and change the look of the rear.

Here's some quick shots, before and after with both reverse and indicators on.

Link doesn’t seem to be working for me now, anyone got any other led bulbs they recommend?

What lamps are required and where did you get them from?

How many LEDs per cluster? One?

If you go to the start of this thread there's a link to Ali Express with all the part numbers. One lamp in each of the rear indicators, one in each of the reverse lamp holders.

15 LEDs per lamp.

Did anyone have a bulb fault come up on the dashboard due to the canbus system when retrofitting LED lights?

No, none whatsoever. They've been in a few months now

I´ve gone a step further on my Karoq rear lamps.

I found dual-color lamps in China, yellow and white. Both LED-groups on the lamps was found to be high power with very bright and nice output

but the lamp sockets is to big (W20) to fit in the W16 sockets, so I needed to rebuild them. At the same time I eliminated a time delay for about 1 sec for the

white LED:s at start. Not that this is crucial for the reverse lamps, but I choosed to replace the switching electronic LED drivers for both LED-groups with an ordinary

power resistor, this way I also get rid of the radio disturbance that most of these chinese lamps generate.

I rebuild four dual-color LED-lamps  this way and placed on the original turn and reverse sockets, and the result is brilliant, very bright and distinct light on both functions,

and it looks very good when the complete white parts of the rear lamps are used to both the yellow and white lamp functions.

I will try to put together some pics and show later on.

Some pictures of my rear lamp "conversions"

Has any one verified if the new LEDs installed, flash when turning the car on?

Not observed that. Looks like the lampcheck functions that is found on some cars, like BMW that I have some previous experience on. Is this function and flashes also verified on Karoq?

Many thanks to TheRoq for the guide. After successfully obtaining the white reversing bulbs from AliExpress I got myself 'blacklisted' and barred from making purchases for kicking up a fuss about customs duty on another purchase from 'em so I've had to look elsewhere for my amber indicator bulbs.

I paid slightly more from e-bay

  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-T15-W16W-High-Power-15-SMD-LED-Bulb-Sidelight-Daytime-Running-Light-DRL-Amber/223284154470?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

2 day delivery and they work fine....as indeed do the ones from AliExpress but they took 3 weeks to come.

Just a note about releasing the lamp housings, when releasing the white plastic turnscrew, stop when you feel it's no longer attached to the lamp housing else you'll lose the white foam washer designed to prevent you dropping the turnscrew into the abyss. That is to say, the turnscrew stays in the bodywork hole, you don't remove it.

Thank you for this guide!

I also send thanks for the guide - very easy to do and the bulbs were delivered promptly from the link.

HOWEVER, I made the mistake and ordered 2 of each, thinking that I needed 2 LEDs (for left and right).

What I actually did though is order 2 packs of LEDs (white and orange) meaning that I now have 4 in total (2 x white, 2 x orange).

So just check that when you order.

On the upside, if anyone from this forum wants 2 white reversing LEDs and 2 white indicator LEDs then let me know and we can sort out a price. It'll certainly be quicker than ordering from China!

I’m not going to change the rear fog light.

Its hardly ever used and would need to be super bright.

Roq,

Thanks for info. Am I correct in thinking there is only one rear foglight (drivers side) or have I got a blown bulb?
