BMW M340i (X Drive) starts at £48,000 and the M440i X Drive is expected to start at £54,000

Sorry typo on my point should have read M440i gets a bit confusing with 2.0 litre engines in the 420i and 430i. It used to be so simple in the 1990's when I bought 2 coupe's, 1.6 litre 316i then the 2.5 litre 325i, then it went a bit Pete Tong with the 2.5 litre 323i.:blush

Crikey, that's more than a bit forensic!!!   A couple of months ago my car was cased at 4 oclock in the morning, by a young scummer on a bike, riding up to my car and calling someone to disc

I've worked out where BMW have got their inspiration from, for the new M4 grill

The rule is, if it begins with a 4 it is a coupe and if it begins with a 3 then it is either the saloon or the estate, The numbers that come after that don't determine which type of car it is. Hth

  • Author

Btw this rule continues with other manufactures current cars more or less. So a C200 is not a 2.0litre, a C300 is not a 3.0 litre, a C43, is not a 4.3 litre and a C63 is not a 6.3litre. The important bit is thewhich denotes the size/class. MB then tell you if it a saloon/estate/coupe separately

An Audi A4 - 30 is not a 3.0litre, the A4 35 is not a 3.5 litre, the A4 40 is not a 4.0 litre, the A4 45 is not a 4.5 litre. The important and consistent bit is the A4 identification that tells you the cars physical size/class and then Audi will inform you if it is a saloon or Estate

An Audi A5 35 is not a 3.5 and the A5 40 is not a 4.0 litre, but the A5 bit tells you it is a coupe

Even a Ferrari 488 is not a 4.88litre (it's the cylinder displacement)

it is confusing but you do get used to it eventually

Unfortunately there are many other slightly misleading numbers on other manufactures cars too, so it is best to research before you buy. Don't believe the Skoda Monte Carlo models have anything really to do with Monte Carlo either, it's just a marketing name they use based on an old racing idea, but is just a level of kit and extras these days.

Currently reading about the Audi A8 Long wheelbase saloon badged 60TFSI e quattro Sport which obviously has a 3.0 litre V6 with electric motor for a combined 443bhp and 700nm despite all this it is slower than my £39,000 Skoda to 60mph taking 4.9 seconds and costing a hefty £88,195. Looks impressive in the company car park or dropping off the Chairman at the Airport for their 1st class flight (well not at the moment of course with Zoom meetings).

I just saw a motorbike this afternoon that must have cost a few thousand pounds, that was extraordinarily faster than your £39,000 modified Skoda. Go figure. Best 0-60 wins every time

You really don't like the idea that somebody might have a better car or prefer spending more money on their vehicle than you and them being happy about it. It's not a competition. I got your chiselling away at my car, it's pretty wearing to be honest, but ok, a lot of people don't like BMWs, but I really thought you had moved on from the hatred of anything that might be perceived as better 'than my car' if it has cost more to purchase.  I could have gone and spent £10K (well, before lockdown) and bought a second-hand car that was quicker than my M4, so what?, I didn't want to do that and I so didn't, but to keep printing what is in effect "my car is better than xxxx" and variations of this with such repetition is ridiculous.

Wow! here is an E 63 with 550bhp and 0-60 in 4.3 second which is way quicker than a 272bhp Superb and a fantastic hand built V8 engine Wow, why spend more ????

It is starting to grow on me... definitely. It's not elegant or graceful and to my eyes the rear quarters are a little heavy (probably looks better with bigger wheels to balance this) but it is interesting.

But they must have known that the number plate would be plastered over the grill. If you are going to be that daring and bold in design, why would you not go the whole hog and do something that a big strip of bright plastic was not going to ruin. A side mounted front plate might be better?

It's too big and too expensive for me though, so it's looks aren't a problem that I expect to have to deal with

This is allegedly the cars inspiration

I always thought he had big nostrils

I like both the Blue and Black cars.

Not growing on me. Still looks like it has suffered blunt force trauma to the face.

The M2 when bought new is really expensive. The old M3 and current (just) M4 can be had with such good discounts that they work out much cheaper, especially on finance. I prefer the slightly more compact size of the M2 but it is a much older basic design that they have shoehorned the more modern F80/82 parts into. The new M4 is going to be far too big for me, even if I ever have the money for one (unlikely) and I suspect the next generation of M2 will never be available with huge discounts so may end up out of any future budget I may have. It's a shame as I love a straight 6 engine. Still, I may be able to afford a Mustang one day if I can get back to work in the near future and before I go bust :D A secondhand C7 Corvette would be nice (C8 will hold it's value too well especially if the RHD version arrives here).

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing the new M4 in the flesh, if for no other reason it's nice to see something fresh looking on the road (not road kill obviously)

I reckon if the car look 'long' when we see it for real, the nostrils will look fine. It's just a new bit of design language and we'll get over it. As I mentioned before, we all hated flame surfacing when it came out and now it's the industry norm. Audi (and to a lesser extent Skoda, VW and SEAT) have a generic look that I can't tell one model from another at a distance and BMW are heading that way a too, so it's a good thing to break the mould and try a slightly new direction, even if it doesn't really work in broad daylight.

A bit like banging your head on a brick wall, it's nice when it stops :D

I think I'd have had a Mustang by now if the rear seats were more accessible. I think it's a good value bit of fun if you don't do too many miles.

335d is going in for brakes and servicing over the nest few weeks so I'll hang onto it for longer. Head ruling heart for the moment but I'm watching the prices keenly of 4 door M cars and some more usable minor exotica that is around.

Stupidity beckons before all these nice motors go to the scrapyard in the sky.

My brake service was due a couple of months ago and cancelled because of C-19. Still haven't had it done, partly because I don't want to spend the money, so it mostly just sits outside and stares back at me :crying:

RHD C8 Corvette prices released Coupe £81,700 with the Convertible £87,110. Sales start second half of 2021 for the 6.2 litre V8 producing 495bhp and being mid-mounted for the first time. Only Stockport, Greater Manchester will be able to service it from the 3 UK Service Centres.

That's why I mentioned the C7. As it happens I used to sell brand-new Corvettes complete with a GM warranty in years gone by and we did all our servicing and warranty work in house with the approval of GM

I'm live at a BMW dealers!!! I've saved up from my weekly allowance and am having the brake service done.....3 months late!

Horror of horrors, there are no biscuits, muffins or tea 😞

Was counting on eating my own bodyweight in food to offset the service cost. Finally have 2 days work to look forward to, hence the car is getting a bit of T&C

This is a bit of a bargain. Pre-reg. Delivery mileage, over £73k new (beautiful individual paint). £49K before a haggle (believe it might have just been sold as I type)

I was a little offended! To be fair to them, they dropped the price slightly for me when I pleaded hard-up and then told me I had worn the rear tyres out (still got around 3.5mm on them) which offset the price drop and then some. Might just avoid doing doughnuts for a while (obviously not jammie ones, or custard ones, or chocolate ones or...)

This coupe for under £41,000.

That not so good a deal. Nearly 5k miles, standard M4 in almost poverty spec and not a vert.

They have stopped making new M4s now and a few of the dealer groups have pre-registered a lot of them for sale at reduced prices. Some cracking deals if you want a fast coupe that still needs more a little driver input to progress quickly down the road and without parking up next to Paddy McGinnis and Richard Hammond in a nice bit of privet. There are less and less cars like this these days and it looks like the next M3/M4 (G80 series) will be a little easier to drive. If my finances weren't in the state they are I would have seriously considered grabbing on while I could (although I really wanted a delivery mileage CS version 😞 ). Having said that the final versions have less torque low down than mine, as BMW improved traction by reducing it in lower gears, as I think one or two people may have commented on the tyre shredding getaways on even a medium throttle :D Speaking of which I have an advisory on my rear tyres ....bugger
