Terraclean anyone used it yet?

Featured Replies

I use a big bottle of reddex in both of my diesels. Cant vouch on the terra clean though.

Theres a big difference between petrol & diesel when it comes to cheap & premium.

Premium petrol increases the RON (91/93/95/97/99 etc) and can have a big impact on the engine charactersitcs especially if your ECU/engine is able to support automatically detecting higher RON.

A old engine tuned for 98 RON fuel will obviously not run well with 91 or 95 RON.

Modern "performance" engines will automatically adjust the ignition timing when the detect higher RON fuel.

Premium diesel just contains "cleaning" additives.

In modern engines with electronic injection & combustion control these are not really necessary in my view.

I've always used supermarket fuel for my entire driving life & have never had a problem due to fuel or seen a difference (except in my wallet) when trying BP Ultimate or something like this.

I understand you can't compare the differences of premium petrol and premium diesel, but there are benefits for both.

Higher octane petrol will (engine and ecu dependant) give you a 'bit' more horsepower and throttle response.

Lower cetane diesel with the additives will burn cleaner, producing less soot and assisting in removing crap from the fuel system (tank, tubes and injectors)

I've always been told to put the best fuel in you can afford. I can understand you're not going put put v power petrol in a 1.0lt citigo nor would you bother to put v power diesel in a 1.4 fabia, but I feel you'd be worth putting it into your 2.0lt vrs.

I call bull**** on Terraclean and similar treatments.

Ialso call bull**** on expensive fueks with magic additives.

Fuel and motoring and multi trillion dollar industries and it would be a piece of cake to design a high quality rigorous trial to demonstrate the benefits.

All we have are anecdotes and marketing guff.

I'd suggest you listen to reason or by all means choose to pay the gullibility tax and subsidise the rest of us...

Do Performance Fuels Make A Difference? - Fifth Gear

We are digressing a bit with a video on petrol, but watch the above and you'll see it can make a difference.

............however, our good friends at fifth gear have also tested diesel as well

Fifth Gear - series 15 episode 4, premium diesel test

It is worth pointing out fifth gear do bother to test things properly on there programme and I do feel they are impartial as well.

Aye, watched those clips before.

Small scale test with poor methodology. That ain't an evidence-base.

If Terraclean, Shell, or whoever wants to make some claims, they need to publish reproducible evidence.

That they would earn a fortune if it were true, tells me with absolute certainly that it ain't.

Don't feel bad though, there is tons of money in marketing too, and they are awfully good at convincing us to believe them.

Saw an advert on the box there today so wondering if anyone has used them to sort egr & dpf carbon issues, sounds good but wonder if it’s worth it?

i had a peugot 308 1.6 diesel  only had 35000 on the clock that why i bought it  but a damn light kept appearing saying dpf clogging  so i went into main dealer and asked about a new one bloody hell £1000 for a new one plus fitting so i had a terra clean done on the car took around 2 hours and i must say terraclean did the trick  it cost me £250.00 for it doing suppose better than buying a new filter    so it deff works for dpf filter was told caused by only short journeys and not giving it a decent run on motor ways to regenerate

From what I understand it's just a fancy machine that does the same as hooking a can of liqui Molly into your fuel line.

I can't remember the name of the product but a fleet manager once gave me a bottle that gave my PD 130 a good cleaning and seemed to make a bit of a difference.

From what I remember, it was simply a bottle of the additives they add to diesel at source. It was a clear liquid and you put a litre for every 20 I think.

DPF I could believe, but the claim of cleaning carbon from the inlet manifold is IMHO nothing more than empty space.

Several other owners of my previous car (an Audi RS4) tried it with either no improvement in carbon or a temporary improvement for less than 1000 miles - so utterly pointless.

All terra clean does is burn really hot, so it will break down carbon in your cylinders and exhaust system, but it won't really work on your intake.

If you have a direct injection; then non of it will touch your intake.

If you have manifold injection; as its a solvent it might break down some of the carbon in your intake, but regular fuel is a solvent too so will do the same thing.

Just had a butchers on google. Is circle K well known garage? Can't quite understand whether it is premium or not, but they've something call miles plus petrol and diesel.

Yeah Circle K is the re-branded Topaz petrol stations and would be widely available.

The have a Miles diesel, about 1.40 euro last time I looked, and a Miles Plus, around 1.47 euro which claims to have some additive to "prevent the build up of deposits and optimise combustion"

My old 1.6 diesel Peugeot used to need a dose of Dipetane every now and then to help the DPF and get it through the emissions test.

Note that this thread has been awakened from slumber by someone whose first and only post so far is an endorsement of the product mentioned.

The sceptic in me wonders whether Duncan0231 has a commercial interest in this expensive snake oil?

Reported it to moderators for that reason on Saturday

Oi, get off my lawn. I'm the resident sceptic!

Perhaps you could ask Duncan whether he's still driving the Peugeot and what brought him to Briskoda then, I'm not sure he likes me!
