Nah, would just take it Skoda haha, thats what warranty is for and deny everything haha

Just be aware on that…I was mucking about with VCDS long coding and changed the steering wheel version without realising what impact it would have. Everything worked the same except the heated steering wheel button.

Mentioned it to the dealer as it was within warranty period. They tried everything, reset, updating. Eventually they managed to get a new steering wheel under warranty which hadn’t worked…but they asked if I’d done anything to the car; noting that if they can’t work it out they’ll have to send it to Skoda HQ who may ask for data logs. And if anything comes up to show it’s not absolutely virgin as it left the factory, they’d reject the claim including the £600+VAT steering wheel and the mechanics time that had been booked.

Decided to cut my losses and live with no heated steering wheel until about 6 months later when I decided to poke around on VCDS again and realised what I’d done.

Roll the dice with HQ and the risk is the warranty claim is rejected. If any investigative work has already been done by that point you’re on the hook for it. But your software will have OBD11 written all over it.

Chucked a bucket of water over it. Three hours later this is the result.         Happy with that

Valid point there @travs the comment was a little tongue in cheek, but understand what you are saying. Plus I don’t really have the confidence in my dealer for things anyway.

Lucky it did work for me in the end.

I found bristos to be very lacking. Vindis in Bury St E are a bit better.

I did notice when scanning the modules it says “last coding date” so would be relatively easy for them to scan it and see it’s been played with.

Same have heard Vindis are better!

Yes I am sure they would work it out possibly, maybe

I know you weren’t being blasé about it - was just keeping it on the radar just in case.

There’s also a complete back and forth about whether stuff like this will or won’t leave an imprint on logs; I’m of the opinion it’s all in the manufacturer’s hand and they’ll find something if they look hard enough. They’ll always have in mind that agreeing to something causes a precedent too I guess.

With cars these days having multiple brains it would only seem that these could be interrogated to a deeper level if required, but then would be dealer specific on how deep they would be prepared to go based on the situation along with how much time this would take.

Are there things as super techs these days who are the guru etc when an issues stumps them.

Think the dealers do now more diagnosis than normal garages and then start replacing parts. From the limited dealings I’ve had with them, a good independent specialist is far superior to OEM.

Went to take the kids to school this morning and had a loud bang and feeling of something forcing past each other with a typical twang of a spring when turning lock to lock. Left the car on the drive and droped the kids off in the wifes car.

Looking at what I can see of the strut with the wheel on it looks like a metal shim or cover of some sort has dropped down over the shock. I am suspecting top mount. Which is annoying as it (alegedly) had new top mounts and shocks 20,000 miles ago according to the paperwork I got with the car. But this was the same garage that put the pollen filter in upside down so who knows!

Booked in with local independant garage round the corner for Tuesday so will see whats what then. Might get them to change the rear discs and pads while theyve got it too as I was going to do that myself soon anyway.

Ouch, hope it gets sorted and not too much costing.

I am still recovering from my last 2 spendy months for my car, but enjoying it more each time I use the car. Not used it since Sunday

Let’s hope so. I’ve managed to convince myself that I DONT need bilsteins all round with lowering springs just because one front top mount has failed. So far anyway.

From what I can see it looks like the spring isn’t seated correctly so think it is the topmount. But at least the mounts look like they have been replaced so paperwork seems legit just annoying they’ve failed so soon. Of the mileage is legit that is!IMG_0667.jpeg

It's a slippery slope, but then I had issues with mine from the getgo which I could never get out of my mind, so it natural that this was going to happen for me.

Is the other side different to this side?

Other side you can hardly see as the spring is in the way, which suggests the drivers side spring is not seated properly. You can just about see the "pigtail" of the spring is sat nicely on the metal ring at the bottom of the top mount. On drivers side this metal ring is at the bottom of the shock... At least new top mounts needed and possible springs. Will be replaced in pairs whatever it is. WhatsApp Image 2026-03-10 at 14.38.43 (1).jpeg

Would jacking up the side with the issue help to see, also if it needs to be seated? Without it causing more of an issues

Yes, will do this sometime between now and tuesday just to see if I can rectify anything and its not banging too much driving to garage. Dont want to damage the shock and end up spending even more! Garage is only 1/2 mile from home so hopefully be ok.

Replaced my coolant tank with a new one and topped up with G12evo

Thought I’d remove the old silicone bag to see the condition and the bag itself looks perfect from a 2015 coolant tank

I did the same a while ago for my 2016 Superb. My bag looked Ok too but not worth taking the chance of it splitting.

It’s in the local independent garage today to have the suspension repaired and they are also replacing the rear disks and pads for me. I was going to do the brakes myself but it will be infinitely quicker for them to do them while they have it on the ramp.

Fingers crossed the suspension isn’t anything too major!

Well this is an interesting one. Spring and top mount broken. Should be simple enough job to repair. But they reckon they can’t find my locking wheel but adaptor. I’m 100% certain it’s in the tool bag with the jack. Last time I had it would have been when I tried the spare on. I’m away from home at the minute so can’t go rummaging in the shed. But I don’t know why I would have put it anywhere else! FFS!

One of life's mysteries. Hope you find it 🤞.

Just like when I went to use my Superb jack the other day to raise our heavy sofa to replace the screw in legs & couldn't find the handle for the jack. The one that is articulated in the middle. Not in my boot or anywhere I looked in the garage. Can't for the life of me think where it could be. Last time I used it was when I tried jacking up my wife's EV (no jack or spare) & failed miserably because it was too heavy!!

I had to order a new handle, together with an electric drill jack adapter socket, from Amazon.

That sucks, hope they find it and get it sorted

I should be home later this evening so I’ll search my driveway in case I left it out when swapping the spare wheels about last month. I’m sure I didn’t but who knows. Also hoping it’s parked outside at the garage and I can have a look myself too. If not I’ll nip round in the morning for a search.

Failing that anyone know how to remove locking wheel bolts without the adaptor?!

Fingers crossed then it's somewhere

Have heard of garages having a spare etc, also just banging the end of it off

I’ve got a mate that works at a tyre shop. Will ask him. He may have extractor tools.

Just ordered 5 OEM second hand standard wheel bolts from eBay. I highly doubt anyone is going to want to nick my OEM wheels and it’s not worth the hassle. If I get the locking bolts off they will be changed to standard. Just need to buy new nut covers too!

I’m going to order a spare soon, if you find it, on top should have a letter inscribed and then google around for that (think eBay’s a good place)

Kind renders them pointless as you can buy spares, someone who wants your wheels and knows it’s genuine can just carry around the spares and job done but tbh don’t think I allot theft is a thing now as all cars have them, not like years ago when they were rare

Had a good search at home and in the car and definitely can’t find it. The garage has extractors for this situation so they’ll remove them and leave it on 4 bolts a corner so they can finish the work. 5 second hand OEM bolts should be delivered tomorrow so I can get them to fit them when I collect it.
