Hi all, new to this forum, first post :)

I recently bought a Skoda Octavia -15 and I am very happy about it. But there are some settings which are very confusing to me. The most confusing one is about the rear wiper. There is a setting called "auto rear wiper". But what does it do? I´ve noticed it wipes SOMETIMES when the front wipers are on, but very seldom. Does anyone know how it´s supposed to work?

I´m also struggling to import radio station logos to the system. I have logos stored on an SD card, but when I go to the settings for the radio I cannot select the SD card. It is however detected, since I managed to import new maps from it.

There are some other confusing things as well but I´ll leave those for later  thanks!

I understand that if you tick the box for Auto Rear Wiper, then (a) the rear will wipe when you engage reverse gear with the front wipers ON and (b) the rear wiper will kick in if the front wipers are on constantly and you’ve been travelling for a while at a certain speed and/or time.

I’ve tried it and personally prefer it OFF, because the rear screen is often quite dry compared with the front and I don’t like the blade rasping across a dry-ish screen.

And I can manage to hit the rear wiper switch any time I think a wipe is needed.

BTW - RTFM

Ehhmm... yes, I actually found it in the manual after I posted, sorry....  but thanks for your kind reply! I have the opposite problem with it - I think it wipes too seldom... here in Sweden it often rains just a little bit so the wipers are in rain sensor position and wiping intermittently....

What about the radio station logos issue, do you have any idea why the car won´t recognize my SD card, even though I managed to update the maps from it?

Are you following the update portal guidance?

4. Import of radio station logos:

  • Import of radio station logos:
    1. Insert supported medium (SD, USB.) into the slot of your infotainment system.
    2. Press "Radio"> "Settings"> "Station logos" and select requested station.
    3. If the station already has the logo assigned, you have to remove it.
    4. Select the medium with logo images and select desired logo.
    5. Repeat also for other stations. Now you can remove the medium from the slot.

Yes. Point 4 is where my problem is, I cannot select any medium, neither my SD card nor any other medium. Nothing happens when I press it.

If you have a Columbus system: With the radio screen displayed if I insert an SD card I get a message "Reading SD card 1" or "Reading SD card 2".  Have you tried playing an audio file from the SD card ? - if that works then I would copy some of the radio logo "png" files to the root of the same card and see if that works.

When I insert the SD card, the system says something in the line of "software update"... Hmm maybe I should remove the other files on the SD card, the files to update the maps... Thanks for the tip!

Well I'll be damned - removing the map files from the SD card worked!! Apparently, if you have the map files on the SD card, the system assumes you want to update the maps and mounts the SD card for the navi system, making the SD card unusable for the rest of the system. It would be helpful if Skoda mentioned this somewhere....

To conclude: you CANNOT update the maps and the radio station logos at the same time with the same SD card. :D

Glad you got these first teething problems sorted, there is a wealth of information and knowledge on here, everyone is generally good and cooperative. Welcome on board.

Just one thing, what is RTFM in the post up above. I know the BTW, by the way :D

It's quite often the case, but I can say that being a bloke I'm exempt from reading any manual before trying the goods, whatever they are. It's just the way I was programmed B)

I'm the same, and I'd also rather ask people that can explain stuff to me in a way that I understand, instead of reading a poorly translated manual
