Battery cover, protection

Featured Replies

On all previous Skoda's I had, as shwn in the picture below, the battery was encased in a firm felt like material cover/box which among other things, I guess, offers some thermal protection from engine heat. My 2018 1.4tsi SEL doesn't have any cover and I've noticed the battery can get quite hot on a run.

When did they stop fitting this?

On double checking, my car has a cut down version with no top cover, just side protection.

Need to go to specsavers....

My 2.0TDI L&K has the top cover.

My 220 has a full battery cover.

Tis an MY17.

Could it be MY18+ or Canton? The canton has bigger battery, maybe it needs more cooling?

Honestly I was asking dealer why its not there and never got the answer hehe.

BTW I noticed on the Polish site car configurator that  "FRESH" option consisting of Amundsen plus Canton (610 watt, 12 speakers) costs 1100zl which is about £230.

So we in the UK are being truly screwed, especially when Skoda UK force you to buy other options at the same time (only available in conjunction with.....)

I was lucky that my used ex skoda uk car already had columbus/canton specced.  1st time ive had canton and love it.

Nothing to do with Canton Jacky as mine has Canton and the full battery cover. Don't know if it has anything to do with MY18.

+1  - nothing to do with Canton.

mine is MY17 - so nothing to do with MY18.

if anything - it might be due to battery size.  i know different battery types are used depending on the model.

mine has the 12V 69Ah 390A EEB Battery.

Is that the original under bonnet noise protection? As it appears to have rubber edging? Mine does not...

Affirmative.

Was like that from factory.

Have u checked other 206 Superbs?

Maybe the 206 motor doesn't get under bonnet protection?

I have the under bonnet noise protection (black felt), however no rubber seal...

Here is a link to some other experiences;

No rubber seals there either...

I bought really cheap seals on ebay with self adhesive and glued them on. Engine bay stays clean now. I do believe it should be from factory however. Seems really crappy that they added the rubber on left/right side but not on the middle.

So it turns out I don't have rubber seals either - just the black felt like u described.

Despite my earlier image making it look like it did, thanks to the lighting and business grey colour!! Lol

Here is some close ups of the under bonnet.....

My L&K with Canton has a full cover over the battery. Manufacture date July 2017.

Maybe they stopped fitting a full cover in more recent times - bean counters saving pennies probably.

Just checked and my 220 has a 360A (69Ah) battery. The codes on the boot floor or stuck on the inside of the handbook will tell you what equipment was originally fitted including the battery. In my case one of the codes was J0T which equates to the 69AH battery.

Interesting Terry. My car is also L&K with Canton, but 190TDI rather than 220TSI and manufactured at the end of April 2017. It has the full battery cover, but on checking the spec sheet the battery is J2D 68Ah. Do you have any extras that warrant the "bigger" battery? I wonder if Skoda just use whatever battery happens to be available at the factory on the day each car is made...

Most likely the reason.

Also check whether  EFB or AGM. And CCA/DIN ratings

AGM more likely in TDI with DSG  due to heavier starting requirement (TDI) and more energy recovery (DSG) so deeper cycling. Also maybe by how many heavy electrical options such as heated screen and seats.

Yes probably Jeff.

I checked mine 190 diesel has 380A - 68Ah battery and 140A alternator. Checking the extras sticker inside Manual.
