Hi, hope someone out there can help... My petrol 230bhp vrs is now 12 months old and the sat nav quite often shows me driving through open fields as it doesn't recognise that I'm on a new road. I've looked at several on-line info/advice links as to how to go about "updating maps" but I've sadly failed. I got onto the Skoda Portal, selected Columbus etc, thought it was all going onto my new 32Gb class 10 SanDisc HD card, but when I put it in the card slot where the original Skoda card used to live,, my green machine was adamant that no navigation information was available! So I'm back with the original card telling me that I'm in a field.

Can anyone out there give me idiot-proof step by step directions on what I should be doing to successfully update my Columbus maps - I'd  be most grateful. Thanks Skoda people!

You have to update the files to the original Skoda card. The Skoda card has security data on it which regular cards don't.

Is that because you are on a road that's missing from the older maps, or because your GPS position is incorrect?

 

BTW map updates don't always happen quickly - it took HERE (the VAG map provider) over 5 YEARS to correct an error I reported to them, so don't have your expectations too high

On the Columbus is shouldn’t matter that it’s not a Skoda memory card. I don’t want to teach you to suck eggs but are you sure you have a Columbus and not an Amundsen? If you have no CD drive in the glovebox (just 2 SD slots) then it’s an Amundsen and that’s a different set of maps. As for why the map update wouldn’t work on the Columbus I have no idea unless you need to clear the old maps off the hard drive first, but I have an Amundsen so please don’t quote me on that.

I wasn't offered anything but the maps compatible for my device when I entered my VIN? So unless something has been retrofitted after the fact, OP should be receiving the correct files.

 

If you have a Windows computer, I am sure you can download an application that downloads everything and pushes it to the SD card correctly?

OP said they selected Columbus, I’m not sure how the update portal works as I do have a retrofitted unit but if you can make a selection without entering the VIN then it’s probably still worth a check that the correct unit is being selected.

I entered the vin number and "it" chose columbus. The front also looks like it's columbus - admundson looks totally different.

I've got windows 10 and really need an idiot-proof step by step......

On the page, you should be offered to download a Downloader, or the zip files.

 

I can't find a direct link however if you are willing to share your VIN, I can take a look and possibly get you one?

As above, just follow the instructions from the Skoda website using their tool & it should be fine.

The Columbus is very flexible for updating, you can do it from an SD-card, usb harddrive or USB memory stick.

 

Thanks to all for having taken the time to read my post and to suggest possible solutions for me. I'm away from home at the moment and will attempt it on my laptop rather than the beast desktop 'pooter in my study. Should you hear of a laptop explosion destroying parts of North Yorkshire, that'll be me..........
