A friend at work has a Vitara S 1.4 turbo auto - yup torque converter transmission, lovely and smooth. Nice car..

The S also has 4x4 as standard..... which contributes to the extra cost over more mundane Vitaras.

There's a facelift dues quite soon.  And a Hybrid too.

I think Offski is suffering from "post overload" .... I suppose if you've posted over 44,000 times there are bound to be minor inaccuracies from time to time  :-)

Mmm, yes, well..... it was just a very insignificant attempt at mild humour, but clearly went undetected.

As I still await Skoda uk customer services to return my call re ' investigation'.., and the local Skoda dealer can't see my car/ do any work for months as they're too busy...

Two gear box repairers  (who've seen a lot of VW dsg failures though not necessarily the yeti) have quoted around 4k to fix the clutch and mechatonic unit but without a guarantee that will work. This is the Midlands- any recommendations? Hold out for the dealer? Hope to trade there with known fault (so they fix it cheaper themselves)?  And re writing to Skoda -anyone know who/how? I've Googled the company internationally and it seems you're left with Skoda UK-who seem neither swift nor interested nor up to date (asked me to " pop along to my dealer" -no I have no car see!-with ID as they've got incorrect data! Despite the skoda dealer selling the car then regularly servicing/invoicing/e-mailing me. Not heartening. Help Please!

Do the the main dealers actually repair DSG,engines, diffs etc,the almost instant quotes of £4000 ish would indicate fitting a factory supplied  dsg, plug and play or perhaps PAY.

It need not be a Skoda Main Dealers you use, a SEAT, VW or Audi Approved Repairer should have the Technicians all the gear and more than an idea.

They might say at the Reception or Service Desk they do not do Skoda, but then that would be a very restrictive practice and actually be operating a cartel.

Talk with Skoda UK Customer Services about Approved Repairers.

£4,000- £4,500 does get a New / Refinnished DQ200 DSG from VW Group delivered in a crate with a 2 year Warranty Fitted.  Original Parts.

Thanks.

Re local garages with an interest in gear boxes-AA towed to one who did the diagnostics and quoted 3k for the clutch , mechatronic and labour; 4K for a recon gear box. Another quoted £4300 over the phone just for the former (try to fix). Expensive long hours of labour. Worrying neither had done a yeti before, but seemed knowledgable re VW /dsg. Car was worth 6k trade/7.5k privately.. I rang VW who were dismissive as it’s a Skoda. I really need goodwill from Skoda here

Skoda have no slots and won’t quote until they’ve seen it, VW said they’d need to contact Skoda for quotes and are unable to do that. Is this the usual standard of excellence or is it because I’m a girl ...

This gets more and more disheartening.

Re. the second part of your question above, is it possible for you to "borrow" a bloke to speak on your behalf?

I have long believed what you suspect .... that a female of the species gets less notice taken when they approach issues such as this.  It's clearly not something any organization would EVER admit to .... but the reality is different - as we all know. It must have been more so years ago and I'm sure that the moves toward "equality" in our society have moved things on, as they say. I have even resorted to , dare I say, a firm tone to my voice and a purposeful demeanour to emphasise a point when finding myself up against  a brick wall, and despite what everyone says about how none of us should ever shout and swear during an argument, I have found that to act the mouse isn't always productive.  OK, don't use bad language ... but a determination in your approach (or the approack of your hairy mate) may well tilt the balance.

I did say earlier that you're coming at this without a great deal of ammunition to throw at them.  But that doesn't stop you from having a go.  I don't do "social media" - but almost everyone else does.  From what I've seen people seem to get better results from posting their circumstances on it than they do from writing a strongly worded letter to the Chief Executive and waiting for a reply in the post.

Again I say be careful if you have an independent repairer do the job .... you said that you could pay £4.000 or more to one - and not have a guarantee of any sort .... that's madness.

Keep fighting.

I did a lot of research before going for my first dsg.

I am sure I have read of a specialist somewhere in the SW who can repair a mechatronics box. Actuators cost about £60 plus labout to fit. To change the box completely was around £1000 in parts and a few hours labour. Unfortunately Skoda/VW just change the whole part rather than repairing. The problem is getting the car to him if it can't be driven.

Changing a clutch pack should not be that much more difficult than changing a manual clutch, except the part costs more.

I have watched a video to see how it is done, and it doesn't look that difficult if you have the ramp etc to give access.

??

Which Actuator, a Turbo?

The Clutch Packs is a very different job from in a Manual.  The Clutch Packs require the tools for doing the fitting, then also the Software

when doing the MCU.  There is a ECU for the DSG..

Over £1,000 with the parts over £500.

Expect to pay £1,700 for the Mechatronic Control Unit to be supplied and fitted. (£1,100 parts.)

Get a Main Dealership to give a quote on the cost. For a DQ200, not a DQ250 or the likes.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/444617-7-speed-dq200-dsg-failure

£2,800 it cost @Sittingbull For diagnostics, & the repair with new MCU & Clutch Packs.

As to prices, quotes, guesses, not much use until the fault is correctly identified by a competent trained technician.

^^^ Well that's put you straight, Ken.

If you do happen to find details of the people in the South West I would be most grateful.  As has been explained, I feel like I'm sitting on a ticking timebomb myself and any options that might be open to me would be warmly received. Probably too far for our OP to travel, but it might assist her in some way.

That's Plan A.

Plan B would be to offload the car ASAP just in case.

"Yes sorry, the TCSS is with the Diesel in the S-Cross and Vitara S. "

But the Vitara S is a 1.4 turbo charged petrol and has a torque converter transmission.  It's on my list of possible replacements for my current car hence my enquiring of the dealer what sort of automatic it is.

Inlaws have one. Engine and gear box perform well, the engine very well in fact. It just doesn't have a feeling of quality inside.

My mate was recently looking for something new and said exactly the same thing and continued looking ... the Mazda CX3 was thought nice but he finished up leasing an automatic diesel Kuga - and likes it very much.  I guess, as it's leased, the Powershift isn't going to keep him awake at night.

My thoughts keep going back to the Kia Niro.  A bit longer, lower and slightly wider (none of which are necessarily plus points) but it seems sensible, safe and economical and, if I buy it outright, has that lengthy warranty.

Just as well there are dealership groups with shared brands and workshops that can and do service and repair from the 4 brands.   So there are those with the gear,  and are VW repairers.   Common parts. Equipment and training.  Plenty have had engined and gearboxes diagnosed and replaced in these establishments.

As to VW commercial that includes Caddy and Carvelle or transporters  that have or had DQ200,s that get serviced in shared workshop, there is a Skoda, SEAT, VW workshop near me that does all 3.

This was in the guardian about a VAG 1.2tsi (no surprise) but relevant to any manufacturer

2 weeks on and nothing from Skoda and no call back from customer service (what service?). Truly the worst car dealership /car experience I’ve ever had. Reference Oldstan, yes I believe you’re right. Social media the only resort. Check out Skoda Uk customer services Facebook page to see if they’ve deleted it today or if they’ve the integrity to leave the post there..

Do you know of any in the midlands please?

This is Social Media.

So maybe today ask them for a response from a Communications Manager.

Then you can tell us and the World if they can respond by tonight.   Do you have a Call Handlers name?

http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

Re an Authorised Repairer,

discus that with Skoda UK Customer Services and a Communication or Resolution Manager.

They know who is who & what they can or can not do.  If they do not know where to get your DSG's Prematurely Failing gearbox fixed by those

that can diagnose and repair them that will be another 'Fail'.

A chap called Kulvinder, a customer services manager(?)-was apparently meant to call me yesterday but did not. On Monday he called in work hours and when I rang back 30 mins later he'd gone home.

?

Is this a Skoda Dealerships Customer Manager.

Talk with a Dealer Principal at the Dealership you have been dealing with

and a Customer Services Manager or Communication Manager at Skoda UK CS, and have it covered by Emails as well, send copies to each party,

and get replies in writing.

They play along customers for a long time, but 'Social Media' catches them out now.

Name and shame and Rod McLeod head of Skoda in the UK can not ignore and if he does his Bosses at VW can be made aware.

I phoned and emailed customer services with the links you sent and this is the outcome. I've found them useless in the past. I even emailed Skoda in  Czechoslovakia. My local dealership said it's a customer service matter blah blah. Both passing the buck

Sarah - Listers Group have dealers in other parts of the country but have a strong presence in the Midlands with all 4 marques under the VWG banner.
