Leave in ‘P’, switch ignition to on, wait for all warning lights to cycle, depress brake pedal and press the start button.

Once stopped at the end of the day, select ‘P’ and switch off.

The DSG clutches look after themselves and the ‘P’ mode puts a pawl (locking pin) into place to lock the gearbox output shaft with the gearbox already being in Neutral.

Hi, I start mine slightly different to this - without the need for two presses of the start button. Foot on brake, press button, hold foot on brake, it then cycles the warning lights and gauges and a couple of seconds later, as long as foot still on brake pedal, starts the car without the need for the second press of the ignition/'start button.

Next question will be how to drive?

I'm not falling for that one! Reversing around a corner anyone?:D

Obviously the car is in park when I get in , I put my foot on the brake and press the start button, it starts,  what all that other stuff people do is all about I don't know.

Difficulty in starting?

Again, thanks for all your replies. I think we've rung the subject dry now. I for one found the comments and advice very interesting and I'm sure those coming to a DSG after 40 years of manual driving will also find the comments reassuring. Rich

Skoda Karoq diesel dsg. Probably same for others. Gear in P. Press Start/Stop button to bring systems alive. Foot on brake, press Start/Stop button. Engine starts.

D in Daylight, worked fine.

R when it started Raining. shot backwards and hit the car behind.

N for Normal, just revved up and wouldn't move.

Got that wrong. N is for Night.
