  • Exactly; whenever I'm asked to recommend a vacuum, I recommend a Henry, or the more powerful Harry (same design, bigger motor).

You do know that lots of us on here quite like engines, right?

Is it your intention to annoy?

I like engines too.

This is their position.

Is this therefore not to be discussed?.

Why is intolerance so attractive to so many?.

Expect similar announcements from other manufacturers in the next few years. These are the end times for the internal combustion engine.

If the trucking industry see a way forward in particular.

Enthusiasts will still have time to play........until full autonomy.

They are just saying that to sound green, Electric cars and infrastructure need to come on a lot before they are ready for the masses.

Hopefully they don't get too hung up on hybrid crap

Hybrids need servicing too......not so much dealership resistance I suspect.

Might be a good time to invest in power generation and transmission companies since the grid cant cope right now never mind with a million EVs coming on stream..

I’m not sure if Elon is on to that issue with his continued ramping up of massive battery storage in places like South Australia.

The existing system has done brilliantly at solving the electromechanical/storage/switching interface which has been a particularly issue in the past apparently.

It seems that home storage is to be taken seriously also as a power bank backstop.

Since absentmindedly losing yet another PM, I’m not sure if pumped hydro will survive the undermining coal promoters.

One thing is certain, change is accelerating.

You're at least one order of magnitude low, just for the UK, if you assume every HC burner in daily use being replaced with an EV.

VW Group Media Team should get on the case of 1.5 TSI EVO Manual engine vehicles with 'issues' get press releases out saying 'we are aware of the fundamental design, manufacturing or software / engine management issues and will be doing all we can to resolve those as this Petrol Engine is all we have to use for Hybrids along with the 1.0 TSI's.

Also that if there is a Safety Recall issue with Parking Brakes on 1.0 TSI manuals in Germany it will be addressed ASAP in other world regions.

Vorsprung Durch Technik,  sort out snagging faults with cars people are currently driving and buying and keep future plans for the future and not to get Magazine / Net space.

Ah VAG will be fine.  They'll buy Tesla by the end of next year and put more effort into hybrid technology.

You seem to wage a propaganda war against internal combustion engines on an almost daily basis Ryeman. It's a strange thing to me from someone who claims to like them.

It is old technology and manufactures have been forced to move on but have been restrained until technology in batteries, etc has made the change viable. It may be of great relief to manufacturers in having to stop developing and tweaking the internal combustion engine. I don't think it can be improved any further and the reliance on oil related products diminishing. We will be relieved as owners in not having to worry about cambelts, camchains and other problems. Perhaps it will be about armatures batteries not holding their charge and capacitor and resistor packs prematurely failing. something we will all look forward to with intrepidation.

@penguin17  VW put all their attention into hybrids and Billions of borrowed and grant money.

Only it was for Diesel Hybrids in Audi's and VW's and they built the engine plants in South America and Hungary and then they were found out and are still being found out over the Petrol Hybrids they also put Billions into.

Advance through motorsport, endurance racing and the likes, and then it all went t!ts up in 2015 for VW and diesels... Hybrid or not.

What a sad situation Britain has become.

More like land of hopeless agony.

Im no cheerleader for anything other than reality.

Great Britain & Northern Ireland the lands of the National Grid and Coal fired power stations shut down, Nuclear Reactors with cracks and shutting down even though the life was to be extended.

More renewables but not all getting to The National Grid or the energy being used just left to be used if needed but in the north & south of the UK there is Gas Powered Generation

ready to be fired up along with 'Diesel Farms' when things are going t!ts up.

The UK lacks infrastructure and the Government with much of a clue.

There are some 'cut price Carbon Capture schemes' now going to go ahead after years of dithering.     That is sad situation of the UK.

Cruden Bay Aberdeenshire and pumping C02 back under the North Sea where the Oil & Gas has been extracted from.

Typical Audi hybrid locomotive driver; look how close he is to that car in front!

The hybrid side of the driveline is pretty much the same regardless of what fuel the ICE is burning so I don't see what you're getting at. The development money is not wasted.

The Hybrids Plug ins not being plugged in is not saving the world.

The Greeness of the Diesel Hybrids with VW Group was about allowing them to keep manufacturing fat / heavy vehicles with kidology.

What is wasted is that the Diesel Engine plants they were putting billions into now need changing to Electric Motor plants,

like the huge ones in Hungary.

VW / Audi are years behind the curve on EV's.  There 'Invested' in Diesel, or their 'Shareholder' Qatar were.   They put it all on Black.

Where there is a will there is a VW way to spin a load of sharn.  Turn a disaster into a profit.

I find a lot of electric vehicle owners are like this. Got a couple in the office right now, in fact.

They're like vegans - You know they're vegan, because they tell you... every opportunity they get.

Interesting discussion but let's all get along. No need for personal insults.

Thanks all :)

It’s somewhat ironic that VW’s introduction of the “clean diesel” to the American market had the ultimate result of weaponising the medical profession on the subject of NOx and particulate emissions..........just over 3 years ago now.
