Fabia vrs temperature light

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to this site I have just bought a fabia vrs 2004 two days ago drove it home fine drives great done 135000 miles. Today I started it up at the red temp light began to beep and continued to flash, the light didn’t go away so I re started the car and it did the same thing. After a few goes at re starting the car it wouldn’t start as of the battery was dead so used jump leads to start and almost all warning lights were on and no power steering so have left alone for now will take to mechanics ASAP. Any ideas on what th issue is has anyone expirienced the same issues. Would appreciate any help thanks

Coolant level sensor in the expansion tank is probably responsible for the lights and beeps, replacing the expansion tank is usually the fix for that. As long as the coolant level isn't actually low, there's no great urgency to sort that out.

Recharging the battery off the car may be all that's needed to fix everything else, if you have - or can borrow - a charger?

Once you have a charged battery in there, check the voltage across the battery terminals before and after starting the engine; that can tell you about the health of the alternator and associated wiring.

@Geronimo007 - This might sound like an odd question, but when you got the temperature light, was the battery light coming on when the engine was stopped? If not, then you almost certainly have a loose or broken alternator control wire, which means that the alternator isn't charging, hence all the other lights because the electronic systems don't have enough voltage to run properly.

As Wino says, a good battery might cure everything except the temp light!

Hi thanks for the replies turns out it was the battery which was really weak so replaced that, all is ok now but temp light does still flash if I don’t use the car for a day or two. I’ve been told it’s due to a faulty sensor as the temp always seems to stay at the quarter mark even if I’ve drove for ages.

It'll be the level sensor in the expansion tank, the metal probes get dirty and are very difficult to access. A new expansion tank is reasonably priced, though.
