Ha, like pulling wings off a fly, all good, thumbs up to the global warming, getting great wine producers in this area.

  • Well done, you finally broken the grip they had on you. Past reputation is not enough. Fear of the unknown has always held me back. Nothing to fear with Toyota except perhaps boredom.

  • Sounds like a hell of a lot of upheaval based on a possible worst case outcome that hasn't (and may never) happen in your ownership of the two Skoda's?...   But if you have the financial whe

Not since those Americans messed with our traditional British Chocolate formula and turned them all into sickly Hershey bars. Then reduced them all in size by 40% whilst putting up the price.....

Best not read my last comment on "THE END OF VW ENGINES" then or it might upset you. Advanced BREXIT warning given.:giggle:

Also please don't use a screwdriver to remove the connector plugs. I see so many damaged. They simply push in, press down on the release tab and pull out, very easy if you know how, no tools needed.

Its an age and failing eyesight thing but I have spent more time in recent years trying to work out how to remove connectors including breaking many of them than I have in actually making the repairs I wanted to do.

It was only in the last week that I twigged what I should be doing and of course now its dead easy, most of them I can do blind ust by touch which is just as well with my eyes.

Jap cars are so much better. Skoda is a budget car anyway, you will get budget service as well as budget quality. Good luck with whatever you choose.

F'king mondaleze..they did change the (cadbury) recipe.. any chocolate bar now turns to an oily emulsion if you drink milk with it like i always did as a kid when they melted together into a delicious creamy texture...

Put it in the fridge until it's chilled and it's really good with coffee! :coffee:

Taking this back on topic, one of your reasons for changing was because of the worry of DMF failure. I don't know of any brand that hasn't got DMF failures.

My mum now has an Auris Hybrid and it is a nice car, well screwed together and seems built to last. A few memories of the 90's (digital clock with flashing dots!) But nice all the same.

Every manufacturer has issues. My 2014 Kia Optima spent ages in the dealer with a gearbox issue, dodgy rear window demist etc and it was only 7 months old at the time. My Volvo S60's variable valve timing went and wrecked the engine, my current Jaguar has had 2 intake manifolds, an alternator and currently has some sort of leak around the injectors. My swirl flaps went on a Vectra once...actually twice.

VAG aren't bulletproof but I wouldn't say they have any more issues than other brands.

Another few points re Octavia v Superb

Octavia will always be much easier to sell on than Superb, and loses considerably less money on depreciation overall. Depreciation is still the major cost in running a car.

Octavia running costs are lower, fuel is probably only a minor  part, repairs are generally cheaper, watch out for tyres, the large tyres on the Superb can be very expensive. More independents willing to work on Octavia than Superb. Octavia still has conventional cable operated handbrake so changing pads don't require a diagnostic tool
