Max has to start on soft tyres in the race and 0.3 seconds slower than Hamilton starting on the slower medium tyres.

Have you treated yourself to SKy SPorts F1? :)

Viewing figures in Italy could be down tomorrow.

No will watching the race tomorrow at my Dad's because he has Sky Sports. Nothing quite as unreliable as an Italian racing car.:tongueout:

How strange for Ferrari to have 2 different but crippling failures on the same day.

Reminds me of Mercedes random double retirement in Austria last year.

Equally strange - Stroll escaped Q1 for the first time in nearly a year which should be a positive I suppose - apart from ending up in P15 versus his quality teammate up in P8.

Bottas having a dreadful weekend so far, and not a great time for him as Wolff has stated they will be discussing contracts during the summer break.

Playing Devil's Advocate for a moment wouldn't it be fun if Lewis had Max in the team with him. That would keep Toto quite busy.

It would probably be Senna and Prost all over again.

Yes, only Max has Senna's outright speed and Prost's race pace. Any teammate to Verstappen (even Hamilton) is screwed to be honest. I think Mercedes are waiting to see if Verstappen's exit clause can be triggered this summer. They'd pay whatever it takes to keep him out of Ferrari.

But he will likely take the lead on lap 1 on the softs and vanish into the distance?

Max lap on softs in Q2 was very conservative (slow) because he only had one lap to get from P15 into the top 10 and couldn't risk a track limits offence. The soft is supposed to be 0.6 quicker than the medium this weekend.

We will indeed see if you are right soon enough. Think Lewis is more concerned about putting more points between himself and Bottas as he is already closest at 39 points behind.

It could be an interesting race. Max knows his best chance is to get in front at the start. Hamilton is under the weather, doesn't need to win and just needs to keep Bottas in the distance. Vettel could make a name for himself by ripping through the field, but I think he will be in the gravel or in the pits for a new nose cone.

Talking of gravel..........remember where Vettel ended up last year in Germany!:tongueout::tongueout:

:D

Sounds like a fun F1 race.  Looking forward to watching it.

A Dutchman, German and a Russian, what were the odds.

Just watching the Highlights on poverty TV.

Best F1 i have ever watched.

What a lottery that was :) even the winner had a wild spin.

Wouldn't necessarily call it a great race - but does anyone remember the widespread whingeing only 3 races ago that F1 was boring!

It s been anything but since the GP in France.

Lucky escapes I thought for the drivers who went off at really high speed in turn one today, close to a very nasty accident.

Given the way Verstappen is gaining on the leader, do we think Mercedes will impose team orders from now on if needed?

It's a possibility but I doubt they would do it before the summer break. And what would be the impact on Bottas' performance?

Toto believes in Karma and not wishing to upset the Racing Gods so Vettel coming second and no points for his boys seems to confirm he was right to be cautious and wary of the Gods. Last year Lewis started 14th in Germany and wins a crazy race and the table was turned completely on its head yesterday. Kvyat had a double celebration with the birth of his first child and then an amazing podium. Hard to believe another race this season can top that one for drama. A race that just kept giving.

Just heard that rules infringement found on both Alfa's post race excluded them from the race and promoted Lewis to 9th place and a bonus 2 points. Makes Bottas mistake even more damaging due to Hamilton now extending his lead to 41 points over his team mate. Bottas on borrowed time and Ocon as reserve driver must be rubbing his hands with glee for next season.:o
