Water in spare wheel well

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just thought I'd mention that as I was cleaning my car, I thought I'd take the spare wheel out where I was greeted by probably a litre of water sitting in the spare wheel well. I soaked up the 10 years worth of condensation and drips to find no rust which is always good!

Hopefully this might help to stop the pesky Octavia winter condensation!?

I doubt that it is condensation.

Leaking rear washer motor?

A common question and many threads can be found using the search box.

Most commonly it is the rubber grommets for the tow bar wiring, the two boot bottom grommets, not tightening up the fixings for the rear lamp cluster (mostly Mk1) and lastly the washer leaking from the hose on the left hand side or inside the boot lid.

Here is one example of a search that touches base on most of these and some apply to Mk1 and Mk2 cars:-

I had this problem take a look at the following the videos still work.

Almost all Octavia's end up with water in the wheel well at some point in their life.

Loads and loads of threads on the issue, with multiple reasons.

Washer fluid from a poor link in the pipe behind the boot carpet or from the washer jet / motor close to the rear wiper, failed boot seal, failed rear light cluster seals, stuck vents behind the bumper etc. etc.

Definitely not condensation. Until you find the source of the leak it'll return.

Boot seal when it happened to me. Holes in the wrong place, made a couple of holes with a stanley blade in the side nearest the bumper and that was it.

Cheers everyone, I'll have a look at it and post some pics about my fix when I get round to it!
