Updating maps - strange result

Featured Replies

Karoq Scout - updated maps - all went fine. However when on road when moving from say 30 to National Speed Limit instead of the 60 or 70 I get 50 disc on top of 60 disc or 60 disc on top of 70 disc. Touching them causes separation but they return to original position after a couple of minutes. Any thoughts please - any ideas on who I can refer to at Skoda?

No ideas, but I have the same problem.

Heaven help us when cars get their speed automatically regulated in a few years time, when you car doesn't know what the speed limit is!

Do you mean traffic speed signs. Do you have traffic sign recognition

I updated satnav maps on the Amundsen head unit on my Karoq sel about six weeks ago and it also puts 50 and 60 symbols up simultaneously. It would seem they are not sure what the national speed limit for that class of road should be, I would imagine a lot of people in the UK are confused that national speed limit symbols can mean different speeds depending on the classification of the road.

I don't have traffic sign recognition. It is not the signs but what the navigation software know when it come to the GPS reference for a speed limit change

In another forum here I read the software contains the speed limits for cars, cars with trailers etc and these are different but they're all shown. I also read there was no way of turning it off but in Nav Settings Route Options there is a tick box for trailer and maybe unticking this will resolve.

Unticking the trailer box has no effect still shows two speed limits

I’d clear and then reload the maps on the SD card......?

I realise you are all in the UK, but is it possible you have some setting that makes the car think you are in France (e.g. Travel mode on)? It could then be displaying the wet and dry speed limits that France have.

Just a thought.

Good thought but I don't recall any setting that would cause that. Thought I'd download and try ECE5 or ECE6 rather than ECE1 as it only appeared with the newer map.

When you say on top of each other do you mean they are actually overlayed or just adjacent? Could it be they are just being cautious about the fact you may be towing?

National speed limit on single carriageway is 60, unless towing, when it is 50

Dual carriageways it's 60 rather than 70 when towing.

I don't think so - I have never seen this when towing. The towbar was Skoda supplied and fitted after towbar prep so should be fully programmed. When mine does overlay (one on top of the other, but slightly displaced so you know it is there), the lower one is a 'no overtaking' symbol.

Incidentally - has anyone ever seen a road sign other than a speed limit or 'no overtaking'? Recognition seems very limited.

Finally got on to a single carriageway road with the 60 limit. The display shows two speed limits, one on top of another but offset so you can see there is another underneath. The lower 50 speed limit is on top.  Touch the sign and they split into two so you can clearly see both, after a while they go back on top of one another. This has only occurred since loading the 2019/20 maps.

There is a setting for having a trailer and I've switched it on and off again (might try it on and see if it just shows the lower limit). I suspect the program checks to see if the Trailer flag is on or off, and is meant to check an attribute on the speed limit icons so it displays the correct one, perhaps whoever brought all the bits together for the map update forgot something. I'm going to try another update (one with UK and more northern countries) just in case that behaves differently but will be a while before I get back on to a suitable stretch of road.

Mine also shows 2 speed limits, one above the other, and trailer mode is not ticked, this happened after the update too, but at least now it doesn't try to take me off the motorway and then straight back on ! :D

There is no 2018-2019 update yet that covers the entire ECE1 area (from Spain to Ukraine).

I'm trying to update for France, the UK and Spain, and it does not offer incremental update.

Seems like it wants to erase what previous NDS maps there are on the SD card.

Bottom line = I wil stick to the current revision. Too much to lose for little  gain.

In France, I have seen the same indecision between speed limitations at times.

Especially when the road is recent.

I updated a month ago to ECE 2 2019/2020. Not having two speed limit problem, only wrong speed limit sometimes it shows much higher values than it is allowed. 120 km on 60 km area etc.
