The 16" OEM alloys on my 2007 Roomster Scout 1.9tdi are corroded beyond economical repair around the rims, leading to slow punctures.

 

I have a set of Raipde 15" wheels in perfect condition which need a set of tyres.

 

So - 185/60/r15 or 195/55/r15 ?

 

Or 185 on the front, with 195 on the rear as some cars do these days?

If you have the rims then a good clean up will work. I do it this way:-

 

With the tyres off the rims I then use a wire wheel attached to a drill and rub /clean off all the loose paint from the bead area.

I then apply two/three thin coats of alloy wheel paint to the bead surfaces that I have just cleaned up.

One can will do the bead area on all four wheels.

You want the bead surfaces to now be smooth, flat and clean.

 

Make sure that the paint dries hard before refitting the tyres. Job done.

There is no way I'm refinishing a set of wheels at home, life's too short - I'm only here for 3 score years and 10 !

 

The 15's are going on once I have made a decision about the sizes ... any experiences, 185 or 195 ?

For 15 inch can either have 185/60 R15 or 195/55 R15 tyres, assuming you have the 6J rims with 43 offset and 5 bolt holes with 100mm radius spacing

 

 

A coupIe of years ago, I put a set of 15in Roomster alloys on my 2007 1.9TDi Scout, so I could fit Michelin Cross Climates. The tyres I bought were 195/55, as they were the 15" size fitted as standard to UK Roomsters.

This certainly improved the ride, though my hopes that it would transform the car to Merc S Class levels of refinement proved just wish-full thinking...!
