which year is the latest octavia without DPF and 130+bhp?

Featured Replies

ive read the info on the sticky and it looks like the 2.0 TDI engines BKD and AZV are the only ones capable of 130+ bhp and no dpf.

I have a BKD in my old A3 and it isn't too bad but I think it suffers from injector seal problems, as the idle is rough.

the AZV is a bit of an unknown but our Toledo has an ASV which is pre PD system.

just looking for the best setup with the least hassle. its for towing a 1100kg mtplm caravan and short 5 mile commuting.

anyone know what year they stopped using the BKD engine?

think ive found it:

Škoda Octavia (BKD: 11/08->)

I assume it means they stopped using it in November 2008?

My neighbour in the UK researched the exact same criteria as you did towing included and ended up buying I believe a circa 2012 2.0 TDi 140 6 speed, I dont know the engine code but it is common rail, no DPF or so he believes and was on the list for the emissions upgrade.

According to Elsawin the BKD was used from 2004~2010

cheers for the info.

was that in the Octavia? or just VAG generally? if I could find an Octavia without a dpf as new as 2010 that would be good.

That was in the Skoda octy & superb same years in VW Golf/Jetta & Touran,  2004~2008 Audi A3, 2004~2012 Seat Leon 2006+  Altea, & Toledo 2005+

Cypher007.... I'm sure in the Octavia the BKD engine was only available in the pre facelift car the FL model came out in late 2008 early 2009 and it switched over to the Common Rail 170bhp engine ... I can't comment on other VAG group cars though fitted with the BKD

I'm sure the FL was still available with the old 1.9PD engine but it's only 105bhp but I'm sure it could be tuned to provide more poke and it's also got the added benefit of going back to a solid flywheel and I'm sure there's no EGR valve fitted either

The BKD engine was used until the facelift. The BKD engine was also fitted with DFP in 2006-2007.

When they found out that the BKD engine could not cope with DPF, they tried BMN, BMR aso.

If you want a 2.0 tdi without DPF, look below middle 2006.

My 105 bhp (which as said can be remapped to the bhp you want) with no dpf was registered mid June 2009 i believe there were still 1.9s 105 bhps being sold until the end of 09 early 10 they were generally "s" models so if you like your toys you may be disappointed

Sounds like my neighbour who thought he had bought the latest car without a DPF probably has one and that I was very lucky to end up with the 1.9 105 PD (now remapped) as it was supposed to be a 2.0 and I bought it as such, on the way home I noticed the lack of grunt and the absence of a 6th gear was a bit of a giveaway!

It was dirt cheap and has turned out to be a good car so I'm happy, all the more so if anything newer would have had a DPF.

If your car is orig. sold in Europe, it should certanly have dpf in 2009.

Actually what happened is not as clear as Euro 5 after September 2009.

The cars were not 'New' Type approvals & then there are the 'Derogation Rules.

I should have added it is a pd I don't believe any of the 105 bhp pd cars sold in the uk had dpfs fitted.

This was the time when the pd engine was phased out and common rail came in but there was a period of time when both common rail and pd were both sold which leads to confusion re dpfs.

Well thats strange.

ALL PD diesels sold here in Denmark from middle 2006 is equipped with DPF. Both 2.0 (BKD, BMN, BMR aso.) and 1.9 (BLS).

I've got a BKD in my early 2010 (59 plate) Octavia... I specifically bought it as it was one of the last decent diesels without a DPF!

That is strange as here (and any other market i've seen) as the only 2.0 16v PD with a DPF is the 170bhp vRS.

Had only just gone to Euro 4 in 2006, wasn't a requirement.

@cypher007 - how often are you towing?

Given a 5 mile commute, I can't help but feel a petrol is going to be a better choice unless you're towing frequently. Even more so during winter when a TDi will probably won't warm up in 5 miles which means you'll be cold and have rubbish economy too.

Are you somewhere in far eastern Europe ?

Here in Denmark when the Octavia was facelifted in 2009, all 2.0 tdi engines was common rail.

The warm up time and rubbish economy is certainly true of any petrol engine, more so on the old school ones with carburettors and inlet manifolds or indirect fuel injection but I have always believed that the great advantage of a diesel before they were saddled with DPF's was that compared to petrol they were far more economical in the warm up phase, certainly as soon as the glowplugs stop the combustion chamber is at the temperature to sustain compression ignition thus the bit that matters is already fully heated, in fact even before the glowplugs stop because they remain for post combustion burning for emissions.

Certainly I notice no measurable drop in economy between summer and winter short journeys where the cooling system as a whole never warms up, and I am very OCD on consumption measuremeant and calculation, with my petrol engines it was a huge difference.

I've a 2007 BKD engined Octavia and it has no DPF fitted and wasn't fitted until the facelift model came out with with the CR engine ... As far as I'm aware the 1.9 engine in the UK was never fitted with a DPF so facelifted models with it should still be DPF free

I might be wrong on the year of my UK neighbours Octavia, its a 2.0 common rail TDi 140hp and he thinks he bought one of the latest cars without a DPF.

Is he wrong?

Not sure how to break the news to him!

A 2012 CR140 should definitely have a DPF. At a guess, it'll be the same CFHC that I have.

They don't tend to cause as many problems though as the engine was always planned to have one rather than it being a later addition.

All the CRs have DPFs
