I like Brooks saddles.

I have 5 of them and the Black Conquest is now 30 years old as i got it in 1991.

Me too. I have three, all B17's.  It's funny how Brooks seem to polarise opinions.  I've yet to find a more comfortable saddle

My first one was a hand-me-down from my Brother in 1974.  Even when it tore and collapsed, it was still too comfy to get rid of.

just having another browse...

the above is available for order from August, on budget, and component list looks good, inc threaded bottom bracket. and according to the blutb and better downhill bike than the Grandcanyon i was looking at on my short list..

That looks good spec and in the same price bracket as the others.

Not that it matters much but seems odd they've put the dropper/ derailleur cables internally but not the rear brake? I'll assume they get the brakes pre-built and is easier to fit at the factory?

no idea. seems common on a few of them.

ive sent a notify me request for a medium in august when they are available (fingers crossed)

lockout on the fork doesnt work and the dropper post doesnt work, allen key adjustment..

Screenshot_20210624-183531_Chrome.thumb.jpg.021ec643675b14084ea81c35eb218b60.jpg

1200-1300 new, no idea when i might be able to get one.

would it worth it at 600/650? knowing i may have to replace the fork and dropper if i feel like it?

Not trying to put a damper on it Mac, but I would be concerned and want to know why both the dropper and (especially) the forks lockout had stopped working.

Especially on a not very old bike..................

Be the usual questions I'd be asking, ie has the seller had the bike from new???

And I would want to know about the forks mainly that it is all working properly , bar the lockout, obv's......

It is possible that both items could be a simple fix for a handy person but for me it would largely depend if the seller owned it from new.

A new seat post is easily fitted.

I always think that around 50% of the initial cost is a decent offer / asking price for a second hand good condition bike. :)

You don't want to be needing to replace the forks .

this is kinda my concern too.... i dont rightly know whats wrong other than what he put in the comments - the lockout isnt working so the fork is always damping and the dropper isnt working either. it could well be very simple on either or both, but yeah... its a 2019 bike with 2 broken ancillary bit already 😬

im also really liking the look of the Canyon Stoic... none of them on the second hand market here (yet anyway...)

re: the forks.... You may struggle to get some, parts are in very short supply and S/H prices are crazy.

I think you'd be lucky to get a decent set for less than £250 - 300 new and used won't be that far behind and that's in UK let alone in Ireland

yeah, i was reading up a little bit on the lockout failures last night, and people say sometimes it mightnt be  actually be a failure as the lockout only acts to stiffen the damping to the max, so there is still some give in it.

its possible this might be one of those?

equally i could probably cope without the lockout for a while anyway? i just dont really know if i want to drop a wad of cash on something i know is broken...

lockout could be an easy fix..or not :)

dropper again just may need a service..easily replaced with another dropper, 100+ or a lot less for standard one

a quick frisk of the bay of e hasn't really thrown anything of interest other than the usual Chinese stuff or overpriced S/H

the usual German retailers have little stock or 5-6 weeks, luckily for you they will ship to Ireland but again as i said knocking on e300 for Rockshox plus the hassle of swapping?

not sure its worth it TBH says the man who put a 300 pound set of forks on a 200 pound bike  :D

see, if i could get it at that price, it would definitely be worth it... and would leave lots for replacing the fork with a really decent one (assuming i could get one, a fox for example...).

but i dont know if id get it that low...

Posted on gumtree up here. Seems it has a few marks from use on the frame and dent on rear rim.
still a decent carbon bike after some tlc though.

Thinking about the lockout Mac, remembering the last time I serviced mine, it is only a kind of stop tap similar to a 1/4 turn ceramic tap valve, which either allows the fluid (oil) to flow, or not flow if locked out, so possibly only a seal.

There will be online tutorials........... How handy are you???

You don't want to be thinking about swapping forks (imo) and whilst Fox forks are generally very good and possibly perform better than Rock Shox, it is believed that they require more regular servicing and that they are not as rugged as R.S. :)

Vitus generally on most reviews/best of, etc decent specs and value

Mate has a Merida with the Bomber forks and really likes them, around 500 ish retail and Fox now own Marzocchi name and I think have started using some Fox internals

well the broken roscoe is now marked sold.

not to me though :D

personally that's a cracking bike for the price

well, the one for sale was a large, so a bit big.

how accurate do we think Wiggle might be with stock expectation??

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/vitus-sentier-27-mountain-bike-2021

brand new is up as €1061, for the entry level sentier 27.

Normally bang on but they will just appear on the website and can sometimes disappear just as quick, the emails can be a few hours behind, so by the time they inform you they might be already gone.

comparing the two bikes for ~300eur difference you're

getting a worse fork

loosing the dropper post

going to 10 speed

brakes are roughly the same

everything else is the same

I think the VR is the better buy imo

Edited by Gissin

VR has all you need to last a while without upgrading.

yeah, i was lookin at the vr spec, and a couple of other listings on wiggle. everything seems a lower spec than the vr 🤔

To be fair the X-fusion forks don't get bad reviews and they are air sprung.

A quick look at retail prices shows 200 ish for x fusion, Marzocchi 500 ish so 300 there, no dropper post so 100+ish there and factor in 11 speed vs 10 speed then to me the VR still edges it.

I think you may need to make a shortlist of what you'd like and see what comes available first?

i pretty much have that done in my head :D

no particular order -

sentier vr

roscoe 7

stoic 3

all in or around the same spec and money, just need something to pop up as actually purchasable which seems to be a challenge.

size medium....

even most of the second handers (very few...) are all large or XL, which are too big for my little 5ft7" in shoes body..
