Smoky exhaust

Featured Replies

I`m taking my 245 estate to a dealer this week.  2 months in and 2,000 miles on clock, and at 3,000 revs, it looks like a diesel from the back.  Clouds of white smoke.  Anybody throw any light on this?  Performance unaffected though, and not used any oil, so I doubt its an engine fault.  But if its interesting, I`ll follow up with another post later in the week.

If this is from cold or in cool/damp conditions then this is something that all versions of the vRS TSi do and have done since their introduction.

Thank you for your response.  Its been happening in all conditions and at all times.  I may well be over-reacting, but its my third VRS estate, though my first 245, and I have not seen this type of potential problem before.

Sounds normal, but no harm getting it checked.

You get a lot of steam from petrol exhaust until it’s warmed up.

It always used to be said that burning a gallon of petrol in an internal combustion engine produced a gallon of water, that then evaporates in the exhaust.

If it's smoke, take it back, it's broken.

If it's vapour, don't worry about it.

It's almost certainly vapour, they chuck out loads and often fog up the rear screen briefly when getting on the power.

Just double check your levels; oil and coolant. In case anything is a miss.

Any help?

My 245 doesn't smoke on Full chat.  (19 plate Manual, 4000 miles ) not in Warm/cold or damp conditions.

Now on 12K miles and haven't seen any issues at all - so as suspected it is probably water / steam being emitted, I wish you could blow it out of the LED lights in a similar manner - LOL

Mine does it in cooler temperatures, until the exhaust has heated up. Tailgaters back off :-)
