Front brake discs worn on inside

Featured Replies

Hi, any help with this is much appreciated,i inspected the front brakes on my 62 plate fl Octavia vrs 20 TDI cr and what I found was that the brake discs have a big lip in them on the inside but not the Outside? Does anybody know what would cause this? I've also noticed that under hard braking from speed the car dives to the right! Thanks again for any help on this

The brake discs now days do wear, a lot quicker than they used to, IMO.   A lip on the inside is the side from which the caliper piston is located, the other side is a slide action.  A little extra wear is probably not uncommon but the brakes may need striping and slides cleaned and regreased to equalise the force.

Pulling to the right could be a faulty tyre, low pressure, suspension or alignment issue.  You could get an MOT centre to check the break force at each wheel (to rule in or out if it is a brake balance issue) or a thorough inspection of the other items mentioned.

Sounds, as above, like sticking caliper slider pins to me...   not uncommon.  CHances are you'll either need them stripping and regreasing or a new caliper / pins.

Just to add to this does anybody know we're to buy the caliper sliders from?

The allen key bolts that hold the caliper on are the slide pins for the movement of the rest of the assembly.  There is also the lugs and lug track for the pads that ought to be cleaned up.  A clean up and use of a brake assembly lubricant like ceratec grease. Most say it is preferable to copperslip / anti seize.
