1.9 gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi all. My gearbox is getting very tired and is making all sorts of noises. The previous owner ran the gearbox dry of oil so it’a probably not worth rebuilding. I’ve been trying to find a gearbox for a month or two now and can’t find one anywhere for a Felicia and I was wondering if the same gearbox was used in any other cars? Or if it’s possible to make a 1.3 box the same as a 1.9?

thanks

Clue is in the addendum to the question; a similar age Golf/Jetta SDi will have the same engine and gearbox.

Have you tried any of the engine recon organisations?

I have had a quote for an exchange box in France, the only caveat being that they might not be able to guarantee the earlier type - I think the difference is a couple of points in the final drive ratio.

I’ll have a look at the golf gearboxes. They looked a little different but I’ll have a closer look.

I’ll have a look into that. I think it’s be cheaper to rebuild it myself though

The only gearbox that might work is from VW Caddy Mk2.

The vw/Skoda Felicia/caddy pickup uses a Skoda gearbox on an adapter plate for the trucks with a vag engine.

The VW/Seat Inca/caddy van uses a VW box which is totally different and quite a lot bigger.
