Superb MkII Sat Nav irregularities

Featured Replies

Hi,

this is my first time, please be gentle.

I have an 12 plate superb 4x4, i have had discrepancies with the sat nav previously. it has shown in the past, a display of roughly where we were but was out by many miles.

Through my usual 'ignore it and it will go away' process, it was 'fixed' but not for long.

For the last week, to my knowledge, the map has been showing me residing in southern Germany. if i put any address in, it plots to that destination from Germany.

i have tried the 'factory reset' in the dash display and via the sat nav through navigation and map options and none have fixed the German location.

i have been onto http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB and popped my VIN in and i have been advised there are no updates to be had by me.

i am going to have a go at the 'hard reset' - press and hold power for a bit... in the off chance that it does not fix it, has anyone else got any ideas ?

cheers. Marcus.

That is what she said 😂 Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Now, the issue is most probably GPS receiver or GPS antenna related.

Actually you'll find all you need here by reading the topic to the end.

Nice one RicardoM, I have not tested the pointers as yet, after reading the bumf I believe it is right on the money.

I am still unsure of the current tone of this forum but if that works I would include long distances, broken glass and an penumbra in my adulation to you.

I had this problem about a year ago. I fitted a new sat-nav antennae but, rather than uproot all the headlining ( or wherever the antennae is routed) I simply unplugged the old antennae , plugged in the new one and affixed it to the dashboard, under the windscreen. Works a treat.

For the last week I've had an issue with the Sat Nav. It can't pick up any satellites. Reads 0/8, 0/9, 0/10, 0/11, etc.

I followed advice on the forum here and bought a gps antenna for the car. I popped out the old one and plugged this is. However, when I turned the car on I get the same issue. Any advice?

I'm afraid your problem is now beyond my experience. As I said, bought a new antennae, disconnected the old one, ran the new cable up to the top of the dashboard, and stuck the new antennae on top of the dashboard, hard up against the windscreen. It's not perfect but it works. If there are 10 satelites, I'll see 7 of them.

Sorry for late reply. Just an update on my issue. It has been resolved. I had installed the GPS in my work car park which is underground so it' couldn't get reception.

I have the GPS hidden in where the Columbus slots in, but reception is not the best. I only pick up 4 or 5 satellites on a good day. Where do you guys route the GPS? I don't want the wire coming out the front of the infotainment. It doesn't look nice.

It's really simple to replace the OE one. Just pop down the rear headlining and it's held in place with an 11 mm nut. The connectors are right beside it so no dismantling of the interior to run cables either.

For mine, i ran it under the glovebox then up the door trim into the passenger side corner of the screen, very neat and discreet

Make sure you didn't run it across the curtain airbag.

I'm fairly sure it's not in the way of anything, it's run around fixed trim

The curtain airbag runs from the side of the roof to about half way down the A-pillar behind the trim. Any cable that crosses the A-pillar around there will be a major hazard if the airbag fires. The A-pillar trim is not that hard to unclip so you can make sure it's safe.

I've not gone anywhere near there. I went from behind the dash, under the glovebox to top of dash, the sensor sits on top of the dash in the bottom corner of window

Ah ok - your first post made it sound to me like it was at the top of the windscreen.

To be fair, I wasn't very descriptive in what I wrote, was just a quick reply :)
