VRS Alarm Beep

Featured Replies

Hi,

Collecting a pre FL vRS Hatch during the week. One thing I noticed was when locking and unlocking the car would beep. I know on the MK7 Golfs this is a VCDS adaption I've done it to a few cars but is this standard with a VRS?

I'm thinking now if that's been enabled what else has the previous owner messed with.

Any clarity would be appreciated.

The beep can be activated or deactivated from the car settings screen.

Ah makes sense. Thanks for that

In the pre-facelift models this is true. I don’t believe it’s an option on facelift models.

Edit: Sorry.  I missed that is was a pre-facelift being discussed. You are correct. Apologies.

Appreciate the input. Regarding the Soundaktor is that an option within the vehicle to change the noise level or is this a job for VCDS?

I think it’s a VCDS job on the pre-facelift. Mine certainly didn’t have an option in the infotainment. It’s a 30 second job as well to change it.

Cheers, been looking around the Forum seems like a simple job. How bad is the fake noise in your opinion? I've only driven I'd say 5-10kms in mine during test drives. The Soundaktor took the least of my attention during the drive.

It seems the vast majority of owners who have discussed the Soundaktor seem to be turning it off. Obviously I'll make my own decision but appreciate the input either way .

I hate it. Before my first Mk3 I had a Focus ST with the 5cy 2.5T. Made a lovely burble noise.  In comparison, the Soundaktor - to me - makes the vRS sound like a knackered old diesel Transit van. Others think it sounds like a V8. Each to their own I guess.

Looking forward to having a listen. Thinking back I remember a drone more so than an exhaust note.

The dealer said it was EGR piped into the cabin making the sound. That to me sounds incorrect I'd imagine it's a speaker of some sort?

Yeah it’s a speaker that sits under the scuttle panel. You can unplug it - bit of a faff - or just reduce the volume to ‘0’ using VCDS. Much cleaner method.

So when I get my new octavia on Wednesday, I won't be able to setup locking chirps?

I've set it up on several VWs through VCDS literally a 5 minute job. Can't speak for Skoda's as yet to collect mine

Its about a 3 click operation via obd11 or vcds, very easy. I had to turn mine off as it was vibrating something in the dashboard, according to the dealer it was that or dash out. Took the easy route!

On OBD11 there's a simple app for both the Soundaktor and Alarm confirmation should you so want to alter either of them.

I've turned off the Soundaktor one and the car is now lovely and quiet, no annoying false/synthetic engine noise.

I'm really looking forward to listening to this Soundaktor. Coming from a fairly loud inside and out running stage 2 I'm looking forward to see how 'fake' it really is. Been trying to find videos on the actual sound but I guess I'll just have to wait a couple days for the real thing

It's not realistic, it's just bloody irritating.

Agreed, although rather than unplugging mine, I had it turned down to 30%, which worked for me, and put an end to whatever it was rattling inside the dashboard.

Gaz

I just turned it off completely using OBD11.

The car is beautifully quiet.

I actually quiet like it but I drive a diesel vrs. anything that makes it sound less like a diesel is a good thing. And i have my individual mode setup in such a way that the sound is almost none existent but when I put it in sport mode there is a notable difference.

It's a TDI I'm picking up too. I would agree maybe in a petrol the noise might get annoying as the TSI isn't a bad sounding engine as is. I'll give it a bash I agree anything that drowns out that TDI clatter can't be too bad

Sport mode sounds good to me but I dont drive with it on all the time, the steering can be too heavy and the noise probably would be annoying on the motorway. I do about 1k a week and mainly motorway miles so the second I come across some twisty roads it goes straight into sport mode. That's the joy of having selectable driving modes! The eco setting isnt much use to be fair, it does have the coast feature but I have never seen an increase in mpg using this mode, maybe I never stick with it for long enough? Normal doesn't get used either, just sport or individual mode.

Hopefully I'll be able to report back tomorrow evening if it's ready for collection

Only use Sport on longer distance drives, where it seems to offer a slightly better economy, but 99% of the time it's in normal or manual.

Have been driving the vRS last couple of hours. The Soundaktor isn't actually that bad. To be fair only used it maybe 10/15 mile but so far so good
