Looking for a different car.

Featured Replies

As you folk know, I've been having some significant issues with my RS, which is just 12 months old and will now be having its 6th visit to the dealer in early February for the oil sensor failure warnings to be fixed (fat chance), but also the alarm sensor failure and door locking motor (open circuit fault) to be rectified (fat chance).

Just thinking now, if they can't fix it, which car can I get with similar specifications to my RS?

MUST HAVE:

Heated Windscreen

Park Assist

Automatic transmission

Dynamic Chassis Control (well, could be deleted)

LED or Xenon headlights

Adaptive Cruise Control

Engine - Petrol or Mild Hybrid with similar performance to the RS.

Sensible suggestions would be welcome.

Mk4 Octavia is 610litres in hatch back form, had a 72 hour test drive in a 280 sport line Superb, seriously didn't like the handling although, I have to confess, it's a fast armchair   But,

  • I really do understand your frustration @TheWanderer . Before coming to a Skoda last year, I’d had loads of different cars over the years.   Having had JLR products for the last 5 pre Skoda

  • I’m ultimately having the same issue due to different circumstance (my lease is ending). The vRS for me isn’t excellent at anything. But it’s very good at everything.

The only car that springs to mind that is none Skoda would be a Ford Mondeo Vignale, Titanium X or ST Line X

I don't know the options list but I would expect a Volvo V60 (T5 or T8) would fit

i30N?

Giulia veloce after some good barganing? Though you may have to go for a 2020 model I think for ACC...

beamer e330?

depends how much practicality would be a priority for you really...

Sensible suggestions?

I'm sure a hundred cars could fit that criteria - the one crucial thing you've missed out on is price and whether you want a hatch or estate or SUV or whatever...

Cupra Ateca with Comfort pack ( I believe that upgrades cruise to 'adaptive' but could be wrong )

It does but no heated screen available in the range.

Skoda Superb Sportline Plus 272 hatch like the one I recently bought although mine hasn't got some of the toys you are looking for it is better to drive than the 245, quieter, larger (everywhere) and for me only 3mpg worse in fuel economy. Even the 7 speed DSG is a peach which is either silky smooth in Eco or Normal or a brute in Sport. Think you had Virtual Fleapit on your Vrs and I wonder whether all the technology on your existing car is one of the reasons you have had so many problems. The ACC and blind spot monitoring are standard on the Plus version of the Superb along with front/rear parking sensors and electric boot plus similar seats but better interior finish and ambient lighting on the doors plus a strip that lights up across the dash when you unlock the car which looks cool. Mine doesn't have VC but not bothered because the dials look very classy at night/in the dark. Folding heated mirrors, heated front seats and electric drivers seat is also standard plus the 9.2" Columbus info screen and CD/DVD slot in the glovebox  for those who like that option. Comfort is good even on the standard steel springs and you should take one for a test drive and used they are very reasonable with a choice of models available on 19 plates for under £25,000. If you think the 245 is impressive you will be amazed with the 272. Assuming the near 4.9 metre length of the Superb is not too large for your parking space (my drive is 11 metres long). Good luck either way because you must be very frustrated with the lemon Skoda sold you.

VW Arteon if you want away from Skoda (not that it’s much of a jump) or Volvo S/V60. Or as above, Superb Sportline if you’re ok remaining in the brand.

Volvo V60 T5,with the 250hp petrol engine.

In particular because big new discount available or a 6 month old one for £25k

No idea about British prices but how about a Kia Stinger?

You did say you were looking for something different.

Oh god no. Hate Kia, had a really bad experience with them a few years ago, never ever again.

Ok guys, you've given me "food for thought", I'll have a look at some of those on the manufacturer's websites and see if I can configure one to my RS spec or as near as damn it.

I’ve been very happy going from vRS to Golf GTI. 230 DSG, doesn’t have a heated screen, but I’m particularly enjoying the heated leather.

None of those have anything like the same size boot, the Giulia whilst 480 litres try Fn getting to it, the boot opening is smaller that the Royal Mail letter box slot

But, I'm neither as old or fat as you Shy🙃🙃

BMW 330i tourer seems the obvious choice.

Personally however, I feel that Jap cars are less problematic than European.

Having owned a Honda fit over a decade, that's still going with 20 years under its belt I just don't get the same feeling from European.  There's no way I'll have such trouble free motoring from the skoda.

The problem is jap cars don't really market themselves at the large car market, esp not performance ones.

Well, they do, bit they just sell them in the US.

Civic type R would do what you want but has awful styling and is probably a hike in price.

Mazda 6 is supposed to be great but is slow in comparison.

Maybe a Lexus?

Other option maybe a focus st estate?

Had a look at the Civic R, disqualified as it doesn't have an auto box.

Still offerin different:

Gallic perhaps?

Renault Megane Sports or Peugeot 306 gti?

Tesla model 3

AMG

I bet the manual is a joy though.

Spoiler Alert. Usually appeals to those still suffering with Acne.

You mean the same sort that tries to beat an RS, in a chavmobile such as an Astra or Fiesta ST. 😂

Yeah same class of owner. Google Calvin's Diary of a Car Dealer for a giggle. Someone built a fake Civic Type R and Calvin bought it cos it was cheap.

You’re fully entitled to make fun of the looks because they are over the top,but don’t have any doubt that they are a fabulous driving car, beyond anything that VAG has to offer below an RS3....read all the road tests and also take my word for it because I had one before my illness.

Seeing as Skoda has failed you due to reliability

I would go for nearly new Lexus IS as an alternative
