Skoda Fabia 2018 110ps engine issues

Featured Replies

Hi, has anyone had any engine problems with their 2018 Fabia? I have the 110ps Monte Carlo, which has been great, but from nowhere the engine sounds like a tank (top part of engine I think) and rattles badly.
It’sunder warranty naturally but wondered if anyone has had any similar issues?

I have 2018 Monte Carlo and recently it was idling about 1500RPM instead of the usual 900-1000RPM. Which obviously it was a lot louder and had a "rattle" noise to it. Took it to the local Skoda Dealer who to their surprise found it has a particulate filter. Which they have never seen that on the newer petrol cars. The car was trying to do a regeneration. I only do local driving to and from work so presumably it wasn't get hot enough. They forced a regeneration, and its been fine since. This may be unrelated to your problem but if you have a high idle or get one, don't worry :)

GPF's came in on Fabias from Sept 2018 and the introduction of WLTP.

The same time they dropped the four cylinder 1.2 TSI's and went to the three cylinder 1.0 TSI's.

They are supposed to regenerate when decelerating with the car in gear.

Fuel is reintroduced to the engine at about 1400 RPM but not above this RPM.

You can use the instant MPG reading from the MFD to find this out. It goes from 0.0 MPG to a reading/figure.

Do you dip the clutch when decelerating as this will then supply fuel to the engine as well?

Good description here:-

GPF regeneration can only be performed in “non power” conditions,  meaning that regeneration is normally achieved under deceleration. Deceleration increases the amount of oxygen following through the engine and exhaust system. This in turn raises the temperature of the GPF to around 400c – 700c, igniting the soot contained within the filter.

In conditions where this is not possible, the vehicles engine management systems alters timing causing it to run lean. This “lean” burn increases oxygen and therefore GPF operating temperatures, allowing a regeneration to occur.

Thanks AG Falco

Thanks for that. No I don't dip the clutch. I only drive about 5 miles each way to work and home, in rush hour traffic, so most of it is in very slow moving traffic ,meaning little deceleration. Which is why it proberly doesn't get hot enough and burn off the soot. Least its not a big problem and I know what I need to do. :)

Hi, Thanks for the comments! I don’t recall the revs ticking over at 1500rpm? But I’m the advise of Mr AA man I’ll leave it well alone. Being towed to Skoda tomorrow morning so hopefully it’s as you say and a simple fix

Please come back and report what it is/was.

Thanks AG Falco

I have a 2019 Fabia 1.0 TSI SE, which I purchased a year ago. It has just been in for its first service at the dealers. I pointed out that it was idling at 1400 rpm. When I went back to get it at first they said it was idling at that speed because it was cold, I said it idles at that speed even when it is fully warmed up, they took another look and agreed with me. I had to book it back in. When I went to collect it they said they had carried out a regen on it, something I had not heard of before. The car is now idling at just below 1000 rpm. For the last two months I have been doing a lot of journeys of only about 10 miles, but it does seem annoying that it has needed a regen after only one year.

My Wife's 110ps Fabia engine failed a couple of weeks ago. Car was 2y/o and had 20.000km.

It idled shaking like an agricultural machine, refused to go faster than 25km/h, and didn't shift past 1st gear (it's a DSG). It seemed like it was running on 2 cylinders.

Had to tow it to the dealer. They told me the throttle body motor had stuck, and although they managed to free it, they replaced it (under warranty) just in case it was defective.

Not happy about it needing a repair that would have been 450€ if it wasn't under warranty.

According to the Master Technician at Bath Skoda, this fault has been mentioned a few times to Skoda, but not in the Bristol/Bath area. The noise started because the Cam Shaft Adjustment Pulley became loose due to the bolts which hold it in place working loose. Everything has been replaced and there’s no mention of a recall at this time. Picking it up tomorrow. Not expecting any further issues but feels good that they knew what the issue was in the first place.
Cheers

P.S. Does anyone want to buy a beautiful Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo Estate 2018 in blue with additional 17” alloys, heated seats, spare wheel.....and of course full service history 😉
