My Fabia leaks, creaks and moans

Featured Replies

Is anyone experiencing the same problems as me, bought a new Fabia Silverline 1.4 8v earlier this year which has been back to the dealer on numerous occasions to cure gearbox oil leaks (once) and loud creaks from the front suspension (3 times). The car is quiet driving along on all road surfaces, even the bumpiest of roads are quiet until I brake over such surfaces then I get the creaking, also when on full lock over bad surfaces and ramps to driveways etc. I can

Sounds like you've copped a duffer. :(

It seems the more dated Fabia's were built slightly better as I've had 46000 miles done in mine now without any serious probs with creaks & parts at all... Oh, apart from the new turbo which I'm trying to put out my mind.

Hope all is sorted because once the Fabia's got rid of all it's gremlins, which mine had done by about 25K it's time for some faultless, reliable, fun & peace of mind ownership.

I'd be interested in the outcome because I have the same model. I haven't had all the same problems as you but it does creak a bit on bumps and big dents in the road surface as well as when braking. The trouble is it'd be hard to reproduce the fault if I took it in as it doesn't happen all the time. I haven't noticed the noises at all during the wet weather.

Has your creaking problem been there from the start or has it got worse over time?

The breaks are to do with the bushes in the suspension arms etc and unless they are greased etc well you get the creaks, I just turn the stereo up or look for a puddle. I asked my dealer about this and it seems to be gremlin without an easy cure and can often be made worse once you start stripping it all down!!!!! Like you say its only well you put the system under stress at its limits.... Ive known other makes cars do this to.......

The first time I heard the creaks was after about three months say 1,5k miles and I have only done about 5,6k miles to-date (10 months). At first I thought it was the rear bumper squeaking (which it did), against the offside rear light cluster and filtering thru

Jason I think your right, seems like 2002 was a duff model year, as the 2003 cars I have seen seem to be alright. My car looks to be fine. A few rattles now, but that will be sorted at service round December time. (Rattle from behind centre fron't are vent that dissapears if you press on the dash, and the in-dash tray rattles. Plus the tracking needs checked as I think there is uneven wear, Oh and the in-dash, air con can holder has broken.) Sounds a lot but really isn't that bad.

Thanks Jason and then Colin for your comments but I reckon you must be pulling my leg. Personally I don

Sorry AitchPee but you are so wrong. I could give you a list as long as your arm of faults on my last two Golfs and lets face it that's not going for VAG quality that is VAG quality. It's unfortunate that you still do get Friday/Monday cars but it's a fact of life. What matters is what you are prepared to do about it. I'm guessing that you can't believe the 'shrug your shoulders' mentality so what I suggest is that you shout very loudly at your dealer pointing out that the problems first started appearing after only 3 months and 1.5k miles. If you're vocal enough they will listen to you.

BTW I'm not picky. One of the many faults was a rear door swinging open when going round a corner. It wouldn't engage on the latch and just bounced back at you when you tried to close it. We're not talking rattles, we're talking about passengers possibly falling out of the car :eyecrazy:

You only have to look at the recent topgear survey to realise that of all vag brands skoda comes top.

The Octavia came 3rd out of 100 and was only beaten by the Toyota Yaris and Jag XJ. The golf was way down the field, The Fabia was also ahead of the Polo

To quote Mr Clarkson on Top Gear last week..

"Which of the Golf variants was the best?....any guesses?, yes you're right, its the Skoda" :D

I quite agree Skoda seems to be at the better end of the VAG brands, especially after seeing the www.peachorlemon.co.uk website. Quite an eye opener for Golf owners I think you'll find.

Haydn.

Maybe this particular Fabia got lost and was re-assembled in another VAG factory... Like one in Spain. :D

have you spoken to customer services yet niki (lady loki on here) is our 'pet' CS rep and she loves stomping on dealers heads IMHO you should at least get a new car good luck

Got my Fabia Silverline back today and I

And that sounds like excellent customer service!

Haydn, it's good to hear that the dealership persisted until they identified the problem and then fixed it for you. I hope your car will now do itself justice. :)

Thanks Denis, I must admit I can't fault the enthusiasm and kindness of the after sales staff at my local dealer, but I feel I must also mention the free coffee machine which I have made good use of over the past few weeks.

Haydn.

Haydn, can you please go to the Reviews section, find your dealer's entry, and post a few comments on the dealer for future reference. That way we all benefit by knowing which are the better dealers and giving them our custom.

Haydn glad to see your garage has sorted the problems without the need to get CS to stomp on them :D

You can also ring CS to give your opinion on the garage as they love positive feedback
