For Superb 2, the original model ran from model year 2008 to 2013 and the facelift ran for model years 2014 and 2015.

  • The point is there are too many variables involved if you measure off the ground. But I've pretty much given up on you seeing sense here, I'm posting for the people who find this thread in the future

  • Exactly the same reason why I've invested in sorting the rear suspension as not a chance of finding anything similar in Mk3 superb for the 25K I paid for mine when it was 3 months old with 3K on the c

  • To add some info to this.    Just replaced the original rear shocks and springs in my 2013 170 4x4 combi.   Had standard chassis with weight range 7 springs as the pics show.

As an aside, I wonder if with a decent set of spring compressors you could actually swap out the springs (and the plastic caps off each end of spring) without disconnecting the damper negating the need for any new fixings if you wanted to just try new springs?

So the official procedure is basically this but you need a special type of spring compressor - the ones with two screws you wind down to compress the spring won't fit. The lower wishbone gets in the way.

Yeah, I thought that as well but the bolts are cheaper than a pair of compressors, and they look more fiddly if you don't have a lift or a pit to get access. Good thought though.

  • 3 weeks later...

By way of an update, my parts (from AutoDoc) arrived about a week after ordering and are currently in the garage waiting for me to get my arse in gear, which is in turn dependant on the rain stopping.

I've been measuring the ride height over the past couple of weeks and it seems to vary by +/- 25mm depending on who knows what. Was mostly higher in the warm weather we were having, but not exclusively. Max was 385, min was 360, so I'm not regretting going ahead to do the replacement, as it's always low and arguably needs to be a bit higher (or stiffer) for towing/higher load.

More later. Might put the winter wheels on while I'm at it.

  • 7 months later...

It's been a while since I got my rear shocks and springs (illness/too long a story), but I put them on yesterday and today. One side a day's enough for an old crock like me.

The difference is absolutely night and day. The unladen height is now 400mm - before, it was around 360/365, so a good 35mm gained.

The car used to make a kind of chirrup or squeak, but doesn't any more.  Also, going over speed bumps near where I live - the wide sort, about 8ft wide, not the abrupt rubber-like ones - the car now doesn't squat down on reaching the normal road again.

Interestingly the springs supplied with the car were 1K0511115BL - White/Green/Green dots. New they were supposed to measure 365mm, but mine were at about 345 after I took them off. Explains a lot about the sag, I guess.  Also, it does indeed seem like they are weight range 6, not 10, judging by the car being a confirmed 1JA, and everything else on the car being standard - i.e. no rough road, no factory tow bar (I fitted mine myself not so long back).

So I'd like to say thanks to everyone who shared their info and expertise on here - special mention to @DrCorbyLee, but also @chimaera and @Carlston.

I haven't had the bike rack on yet - which is really what prompted doing this - but I'm pretty sure the added height and lack of wallow will help with that.

Should have done it years ago 🙄

Briskoda rocks!

Yup, still happy with my ride height after sorting the rear out, no bottoming out with full load and bike rack, has tow bar and a rear diff.

Well done!
