Does anyone know how to remove this plastic thing from my gear knob? I'm trying to change the leather cover.

I think OP wants to know how to separate the leather gear gaiter from the plastic securing mechanism not how to remove the gear gaiter from the centre console.

Just assumed it was still in the car and he had already removed the gear knob......

 

In that case...... he needs to go shopping.

From memory I used a few screwdrivers, but that was get the same thing apart on a 2002 VW Polo, not easy as it is not built for taking apart, might also have involved fixing something into a vice and then forcing that part against it while using a screwdriver to lever it apart - I managed to get it back together with another leather gaiter . (the original one turned out to have been leather as well, just not very supple leather, I had guessed it was just plastic stuff!)
