DTUK did not look good after this one . the DTUK unit DSD tested lowered the stock 150bhp by 3bhp to 147bhp ...

Got me thinking about my DTUK box on the vRS, some days its definitely doing what it is meant to, strong pull and more than stock, but other times it feels completely underwhelming.

As I long suspected having always had a custom remap on my cars this proves tuning boxes are first a waste of money and second could damage your engine (too much pressure on the common rail sensor).

For comparison my 2013 Mk3 Octavia shared the same engine as the Audi A4 tested 150PS and when rolling road tested it produced 147bhp and 246lb/ft (Skoda claim 236lb/ft). The Audi was 147bhp and 255lb/ft.

DTUK gave 145bhp and 285lb/ft.

TDi Tuning gave 169bhp and 290lb/ft.

Racechip gave 169bhp and 290lb/ft.

Darkside Developments custom remap gave 190bhp and 305lb/ft.

My custom AmD remap on the Octavia gave 186bhp and 317lb/ft.

All the tuning boxes tested were at least £400 yet my custom map was £500. Make up your mind which is better value. Best when standard my car did 71mpg and after the remap 70mpg.

Or on the days you think it's doing what it should the car is running as normal and other times the box is hindering the performance maybe?

After watching that video I wouldnt touch a box nor would I recommend anyone else to. My bro has a giulietta 2.0 tdi 150bhp and was looking at the blue fin box but they have gone into liquidation now!

I absolutely love darksides content one of the reasons i ended up in a diesel. I've always used the same mapper for my cars except when i had my Impreza i decided to go with Andy Forrest because he is subaru royalty and close to me.

DSD didn't get the correct tuningbox for the car they tested & didn't want to change it when told by dtuk it wouldn't work, Surprise, Surprise it didn't work.

you free wheelin' down hills or something?

my grandpa use to do that, turn off the engine in the 'Morris' and coast along. It worked until he switched cars then tried it in a modern motor and the steering locked and he ended up in a ditch.

Only good drivers get good mpg. Everyone else either doesn't care or wears diving boots. Try getting 49.3mpg in a 360bhp petrol Superb that weighs 1,627kg.:hi:

Today must be the day for false news on t'internet.

Steering locks from day one would never engage unless the key was removed from the ignition barrel and you also have to turn the wheel significantly applying much more lock than you would once in motion at any speed.

Its been close to 50 years since they became commonplace and during that time I have heard many people claim that the accident they had was caused by the steering lock engaging.

What was worse for dtuk was that they then tried to use a phone app that uses a 1hz reciever to justify performance figures.....

Just to pick this back up, my feeling that the box wasn't doing what DTUK say it should be doing were confirmed today via rolling road test. 209bhp from a product that claims much higher results. I know they use the terminolgy of "up to 240ps" but the result on rolling road speaks for itself.

Had the box removed there and then at the end of the dyno run review - the car is now tuned with Revo stage 1 software with rolling road results and overlay to compare the tuning box vs Revo. The difference is night and day  and I wish I hadn't bothered with DTUK - waste of money.

I have thought that they would do better do advertise them as "improved performance" rather than "+40ps" in much the same way they describe their pedal boxes. I have a pedal box now fitted to my Passat after having it on my Octavia. Don't think I would own a VAG car without one.

I had a tuning box on my vRS tdi for 12 months, and whilst it improved performance (no idea how much, never measured it) but it wasn't massive because I had to retard the settings due to constant EML and limp modes. You can drive a performance car with that level of unreliability, best thing I did was ditch it and get it properly remapped.

70mpg your having a laugh once you get a remap or attach a tuning box the cars mpg readout doesn't work properly if i get 50mpg driving like miss daisy I'm happy
