KPH/MPH

Featured Replies

I wrote a letter to the MD of Skoda and as a result of that I got a call. Maybe worth trying that. I am expecting a call soon about any update to the situation.

I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

I have not had any issues in the last two weeks (touch wood).

The only thing that has been different in the two weeks was my car went in to my local Audi dealer to have a repair to the paintwork (damage that happened while car was being delivered to me).

I'm not sure what they did while they performed the repair but when I got the car back the dashboard brightness had been changed and the digital cockpit layout had changed.

Skoda UK asked me to take my car to the dealer for them to upload a report to the factory. That has been done this afternoon. Can only wait, I wonder how long for, to see what the outcome of the exercise is. I must confess I only have relatively minor software issues. So far, mechanically, the car has behaved itself and apart from the software niggles I am happy with it.

I have had the same conversation today, with the car being booked in for the 7th April at my local dealer.  They mentioned they would phone the dealer in advance and explain what needed to be done with the car being in.  Clearly something is going on behind the scenes, but I suspect it is more to do with investigating and pinpointing which cars are impacted rather than a fix judging by the conversation I had.

Of the last two weeks, the car has behaved well with regards the electrics and my main issues are a lack lustre engine performance, a notchy gearbox and the mph/kmh issue.  At this time I’m not impressed with the cars driveability but I do like many other things about it.

I am hoping they find something with the car so it can be improved.  It doesn’t feel like a car with 150 bhp.

Can you select sport in the drive mode? On normal setting the car does not feel like a 150 bhp car. This is from a DCC equipped car but you get the idea

Interestingly my earlier Email to the dealership with the head of PR in CC has just bounced back so looks like I may have been blocked by Mr Panarisi (head of PR).

It only took being in CC of 7 emails from my first one on March 8th.

Do you mean that they changed the left/right dial displays or you had a new digital cockpit layout which was not available before?

Thanks.  Yes I can set sport mode.  Although I don’t have comfort, just eco, normal, sport and individual.   I’ll play around with different mode settings over the next few journeys and see if it feels any better.

Mine is the same. Feels sluggish until you get to higher speeds and then it is good.

An update. My car is going to be kept by Skoda for 2-3 weeks whilst they try and solve the KPH issue. The person o am dealing with at Skoda is very good and the communication is excellent. She is really pushing the case and they are aware of the legalities of situation. Whilst there mine is having the 'kangerooing' engine and other things looked at. I am hoping that the time frame we are looking at is going to be 2-3 weeks for the KMH fix to be sorted. There certainly has been alot of contact with the factory by all accounts.

Good news hopefully.

Thanks, Very interesting update and it is inline with my impressions that, despite not acknowledging it, they have realised that the non-compliance to the UK road regulation is a major issue that they need to address promptly.

My dealership has had mine for 2 weeks already (out of 4 weeks ownership) and I cannot see it being released anytime soon.  They are helpful pushing back regarding the slow/delayed front assist as Skoda UK is saying it's a characteristic of the car. I haven't got any communication from Skoda UK, just a template email from Kate Laws after CCing executive office yesterday.

Edit: btw, I have started reaching out to the various UK Government agencies (VCA, DFT,etc.) but it is proving challenging to identify the right entity/contact to get an official confirmation of whether the cars are allowed to be driven on UK public roads while non-compliant to the UK road regulations.

I've also mentioned the slow/delayed front and rear assist and have also been told that is the way it is. Its last making me slow things down, which may be no bad thing!

2-3 weeks!  Dude that’s a long time!  Hope they’re giving you a long loan courtesy car!    What will take them 2-3 weeks to do I wonder!   My will go in on the 7th April and I hope they don’t expect to keep it for that long, perhaps you’re the test car and subsequent cars will be quicker.  Thanks for taking one for the team!

It's no problem. They are sorting me with a replacement until they can sort it. I'm told it will be something of Octavia or bigger so it will be nice to drive something else! I don't mind as long as it comes back sorted, and if my car is used as a test to get everyone of the others sorted, then so be it.

Mine is currently at the dealers, where it was agreed to leave it for a few days for testing.

I'm already told further software updates have been applied. No idea of any reference numbers, but it is only a few weeks since 97EQ was applied, so that suggests to me either:

* Particular updates are only applied depending on the issue being presented.

* There have been updates released in the last couple of weeks.

I'm told my issues haven't been seen since the newer updates were applied, although the MySkoda app appears to show the car has only had one 'trip' since I dropped it off, so no idea how thorough the testing has been. I have no idea if starting the engine counts as a trip, or if the car must be in motion to log it as a trip, but in any case the car appears to have been in use for a 1hr trip which only covered 4 miles with an average speed of 4mph, so possibly had several trips up and down the road at slow speed while the infotainment was being toyed with.

So I had a phonemail from the very helpful Kate of Skoda UK.  They are clearly taking the issues seriously and being proactive now.  She asked if it would be alright to have my car for a long period to help resolve the kmph/mph issue as well as some of the other issues that we have all, at some-point experienced.  As with yourself they are sourcing a long term hire car, although I've had to move the date as unless they can find me an estate with a tow bar fitted it's not going to be possible to be without my car for a long period.

I think there is a genuine concern from Skoda regarding the kmh/mph issues given the need to bring in vehicles and keep them for such a long time.  So wether it's a legality issue or it's going to take them a long time to do what they need to do I don't know at this time.

I can echo Adjude's previous post. Been contacted by Kate Laws today to ask if my car can be booked in for an extended stay, to resolve the mph/kph issue.

They will provide either a loan Skoda or a hire car for the duration, a stipulation being that I am able to fit my golf clubs & trolley in the boot. Should be booked in next week.

Skoda seem to be reacting well now that it is accepted that there is a problem. As long as they fix it without creating any other snags I'll be happy.

As my car was a dealer's ex demo or employee vehicle, it would have been nice if the person driving it had noticed the bugs & reported them earlier.

Might go on a diet of lettuce & carrots now that I seem to be a guinea pig.

I'm having mixed results with Kate / my garage,

At the moment it appears that everyone has agreed with the rejection of my car. However, this has been agreed based on other problems (mainly unsafe headlights). However, it's being delayed because the garage and VWFS seem to be unable to agree on the exact amount. Thanks to the delays caused by this, I've had another payment taken from my account for the car and all of the cars I'm looking at as replacements have had a price increase. Now it appears that after a few back and forths everything is going to be on hold till Tuesday due to the bank holiday.

To put it mildly, I'm a bit miffed.

I've had a couple of new s/ware glitches show in the last three days.

Turning on the left indicator to exit a roundabout I got the 'boing' of a problem then a bulb/light failure indication which remained on for the remainder of the journey home. Checking the lights all worked OK. The error showed up in the My Skoda App asking me to check both DRLs - which were fine. Next day, the error was gone from the dash as well as the app.

Today, the App is telling me the drivers door and tailgate are open and the vehicle unlocked. Well, all doors are shut and the car very much locked. At least its got the bit about the parking lights being off correct!

Perhaps it's the developers idea of an April Fools 🙄

Also, had an email from Kate Laws asking for my daytime number so am expecting a call sometime.

This is what I was staggered about. Mine was an ex demonstrator as well. It is impossible to think that the person driving it before me didn't know there were problems.

I got a call to say I had a kamiq. Will be interested to see what it is like!

Ditto....mine was an ex demo....used by the parts manager....to be fair....it hardly moved in the last year... Kamiq...should be an interesting comparison...

Aside from the lease & finance vehicles 90% of what the dealers sell are 3 month old low mileage ex-demonstrator vehicles allegedly driven by the sales manager, they must have an awfull lot of sales managers and of course its nothing to do with them making more profit on a used vehicle sale having reclaimed the VAT on the new vehicle.

In 1972 my parents bought a nearly new Ford Capri from the Ford dealership and they were given that line, you would think that after 50 years people might have got wise to it.

Everyone that I have known even remotely connected to the car manufacturers or dealers even their daughters at university are given 4 new cars a year that they have to drive for 3 months and put a certain amount of miles on before exchanging for the next one.

Can I join the Ex-Demo Owners Club.  I also voiced my concern that my car had been driven by a senior member of staff for a couple of months and guess what, he didn't notice the re-occurring error messages.  Like you all they were totally unaware until I reported it.  I have been told they likewise want my car for an unknown period and will collect it and leave me with a courtesy car but at present haven't been informed what it will be.  Anyway, things are moving now hopefully in the right direction.

Best of luck everyone - our conjoint efforts appear to have worked not to mention the legality issue re Imperial/Metric readings.

Happy Easter to you all.

Me too...

Six months old with about 2500 miles on the clock, run by the Sales Manager. No call yet for mine to go in, hoping I will hear next week.

Mine was brand new but old stock... interestingly the first edition, which has been loaned to me for the last 2 weeks, has even more issues than mine. I guess it does not have 97EQ applied...
