KPH/MPH

Featured Replies

A question. Can people on here confirm when they contacted Skoda UK or their garage regarding the KPH Issue. I am trying to pinpoint when Skoda would have known about this problem. The comments started in September but I don't know if it was reported up to Skoda customer services.

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

Thanks in advance.

I raised the non-compliance to the UK road vehicles regulations on March 8th, 4 days after taking delivery. It was to the CEO of the dealership group and the head of PR of Skoda UK.

My car has been with the dealership since March 18th and I have a courtesy car since.

Many thanks. I am trying to establish that there are many of us who bought the car when Skoda knew there was a problem and yet they continued to sell the car, rather than taking them off the market. This may help the case for a number of people on here who are in the process of rejecting the cars.

To those receiving loan cars, have you rejected your vehicle or are just returning your car temporarily to wait for a fix?

Waiting for a fix.

We took delivery of ours on 10th Nov, a previous demonstrator, and reported it through our local dealership within a couple of days and the car subsequently went in on three separate occasions, all to no avail.  In the meantime I had attempted to get help from Skoda Customer Services but they insisted this wasn't known to them and needed to go into a dealership for it to be checked subsequently to be informed at the beginning of December that our car wasn't fitted with the facility to change to KPH etc.  The rest is history.

We still have the car and the faults despite it being elevated to the Executive office.  Now 6 months on we are no nearer getting sorted.

Same here, waiting for fix.

Hi,

I have initiated the rejection process. I received a Mk4 Octavia Loan car and this has issues as well, so it's kind of put me off the whole range...

My first contact with Skoda regarding the MPH/KMH was 24 Jan 21 - purchased the car 18 Jan 21.

Cheers

Phil

I picked my car on 8th March (ex. Demo, 6 months from 1st registration)

Reported the KPH issue to the dealer on 12th March, Honest John on 15th and Skoda exec office 26th.

The car is back at the dealer, since 14th April; and i have a loan Octavia Mk4 SE 1st Ed; I’m awaiting a fix.

How is the loaned Octavia?

Yes, how is the loan Octavia?

So it seems that Nosnehm reported this in November, so assuming some others around the country did as well, Skoda UK should have known about the issue, and continued to sell First Editions. Would we agree that seems a sensible conclusion?

I have started the rejecton process and am waiting to hear what my dealership will offer me as a 'buy back'.

Apart from the kph/mph issue and whether or not High Beam Assist can actually be added I will be returning my car temporarily to wait for the necessary fix. This must be costing Skoda UK in terms of hire cars so lets hope that they pressurise the factory to issue the fix as soon as possible.

I believe both @Gax and myself have the SE 1st Ed (smaller infotainment screen than the rest of you), have you had any issues with the screen not working?

Yes, slow start up, re-setting etc. Although, I found that taking my older USB stick out and replacing with a new version, reduced this. Also found that sometimes with android auto, the music would not start and the volume wouldnt work either on the steering wheel or the slide bar.

So far, it’s working fine. Covered about 250 miles in it so far, over several journeys.

KPH/MPH is fine, no problem changing units.

Infotainment system is a little slow to start up but never been an issue.

CarPlay reconnects my iPhone automatically wirelessly.

@Gax @fossman - no issue with screen not working.

Only [non] issue is with me getting familiar with the DSG e-Tec 🙄 and picking up a stone chip on the windscreen!

From the same German forum. Looks like sw 1803 really exists and is already available. Unfortunately this is a unit ending with D.

My car was registered July 2020 (ex-demo from dealer)

Bought it on 18/3/21

Notified dealer of mph/kph problem 21/3/21

Contacted HJ 21/3/21

First contact from Skoda UK 22/3/21

I am currently awaiting a call to take the car in to my local dealer & pick up a hire car.

So far my issues are the mph/kph problem, & the satnav's inability to recognise UK postcodes without giving an 'offroad' destination.

I have a Kamiq as the hire car and that recognises all destinations as offroad too!

My car went into yesterday and I was given a Ford Kuga.  Brand new with 18 miles on the clock.   Just done a 320 round trip.  Not an issue with any of the systems, just works   Not a huge fan of it for a number of reasons, but it does some things well and it’s also much quieter on the road from both road and wind noise then the Octavia.

My latest saga is the fact that my octavia model (1.5 TSI, manual FE)  isn’t approved for towing and so, even though the dealer fitted a tow bar, I cannot use for towing.  Which is a redline as I need to tow a trailer on a regular basis.   I’m now in early conversations with the dealer about swapping the car.

At least this has kept me occupied during lockdown!

Oh.  It also took me 10 seconds to find where to switch the units on both the speedo and satnav to kph or mph....and it works!

Bit of an update. Spoke to the service manager at the dealers Friday and he said they did a software update and in doing so the option for changing units in the settings has now disappeared.  They’ve reported that back to Skoda UK to see what the next steps are.

Thanks in advance.

I picked mine up from the dealer on Sept 1st and reported it to them on Sept 2nd. However, I only raised an issue with Skoda UK at the start of October.

I've now successfully rejected the car

I left my car with the garage (after being contacted and arranged by Kate Laws, like others on here) on Saturday. They could give me no idea if when I would get it back. They said that they have already had a car in for over a month to no avail.

I am not willing to leave my car in indefinitely while driving around in a garage car with a £750 excess that is an inferior spec to my own car.

I will give them two weeks, and if I hear nothing back, I will contact Kate Laws. No mention of any compensation etc either. Very poor. After getting my slSuperb (which is still great) I had only good things to say about Skoda. But this has really out me off getting another car from them in the future.
