Karoq EPC Light on then off

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had my Karoq for about 6 weeks now and I've driven 2000 miles. I had an instance where the car's auto stop start stalled when at a junction because I was rolling and accellerated then I couldn't get the car started for about a minute and then it was fine. When I got home I pulled up and later went out again this time there was an EPC Warning light on the dash but it didn't specify what that was for and at the time I had no idea what it was so i drove on to realise that the car was basically undrivable. After restarting it the EPC light dissapeared and all was back to normal. Come forward to today I just got home yesterday from a day out (about 100 mile round trip) and went to the shops this morning and I just had to go out again and the EPC came back on. After driving for 15 mins I restarted the car and it went off again.

  1. Should I be concerned about it considering it turns on and off with a restart?
    • (provided that I drive for a few minutes and then restart it, restarting it on the spot doesn't clear it)
  2. What could be the possible issues causing it?
  3. If I need to go into dealership for repairs how much will it cost me (it's still under warranty)
  4. In the case of the car stalling by itself is that normal or should that not really be happening
    • Car only stalls when around 2-5mph and the engine cuts and I press the pedal (only happens on occasion)

My car is -

2.0 TDI 7sp DSG 4x4 registered in Jan of 2020 (I believe that makes it MY20)

From what I've checked there are no outstanding recalls. I did buy this car second hand with 9.5k on the clock but when test driving it everything was perfect.

You may have a dead battery if the car stood a long time between build and delivery.

Mine had to have the battery replaced at 2 weeks old as not charging properly.

Stop start issues are often first to come up as battery volts too low for it to work.

If the battery is allowed to go completely flat and left for some time it may never charge properly again. Skoda, vw & audi have had a spate of dead batteries this year and the AA guy who had to help me said he was aware of a bad batch out there.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply.

My car definitely doesn't have a dead battery it's driven on a daily basis for many miles nor do I just sit in my car and drain the battery. Do you know a way to check if I have a bad battery?

Mine was being driven long distances but the battery was unable to take in the charge as it had been damaged by storing for some months between build and sale to me.. Every thing else was working

I see, what were the symptoms of your dying battery before you had it replaced?

The direct approach to car battery testing (i.e. under real load) that I prefer:

I think that you should go to the dealership and address the problem. It's not something normal!

I had the EPC illuminate several time, associated with loss of power and kangarooing.

Fault was traced to a fault inlet cam sensor, fault batch of sensors.

Repaired at the dealer, fault reappeared again a week later, found problem again same fault sensor. Now in the process of rejecting the car.

Sorry to hear of your stress with the car. I have read quite a bit about the 1.5 kangarooing, do you know if Skoda have formaly acknowledged faulty cam sensors as the cause?

NB: This might be best in a new thread.

There was a Skoda tech brief from March 2020, about batch of fault sensors.

When the garage replaced the sensor on the 1st visit, they only replaced the sensor again from same fault batch.

Our 1.5 TSI SEL always felt "wrong" to drive.

Abit jerky, not smooth , lacking power. had the dealer check it out, not surprised at a not fault found result.

Then we started to get the EPC light come on, only from a cold start, it would just stay on. cycling the ignition made it go out. it never came on whilst driving and was so irregular when it did show there was no recreating it.

Again tried to book into the dealer but couldn't see it for 5 weeks! so I called Skoda assist to it. faulty cam sensor diagnosed and replaced at my house....its a different car! so much smoother more power and more responsive. its obvious to me that the sensor was faulty from the start causing the drivability issues but was still operating just within limits until it started to fail.

scuba Steve, I think you were just unlucky that the new sensor you had fitted was faulty...it does happen.

if the car is now fixed why are you rejecting it?

Just for anyone still following this.

I finally managed to get my car booked in. It’s going in tomorrow morning I’ll let you all know what they say about it.

It was a faulty fuel pressure sensor, seems to have fixed the EPC light.

Now I’ve just some new problems with a creaking&crashing suspension, like a scraping noise when the windscreen wiper wipes and a lot of rattle coming from my overhead console...

not sure what there would be covered under warranty but hey ho

took my dads SE L 1.5 TSI for it's service yesterday and said about EPC light being on all the time seem it a faulty pressure sensor they need to order one in as they run out.

so look like it's a common problem

Sadly no. I have a sunroof so the overhead console is all those controls

My 1.5 SEL Karoq had intermittent EPC illuminations and when it was serviced they replaced the crank position sensor and it's been fine sine
