Ah yes maybe it's a lifter.. is this something easy to replace at the same time? Damn it's making hell of a racket, is it ok to drive for the next 2 weeks untill I've got days off work to fix all this ? I will post a video tomorrow of the noise, I'm gonna try put a new spark plug in the dodgy one see if it's runs any better at idle, it's definitely still miss firing.

  • Head bolts are various different lengths and some have washers and some don't. They have to be positioned into the right holes. Here's the info you need....     Tightening/positio

  • Mine is a bit rattly after doing timing chain but it's coming from the gearbox which I think is the input Shaft bearing but don't think it's bad enough to worry about at this stage. Car has only done

  • You can get the lifters out using one of those telescopic magnets, Halfrauds sell one in a set with an inspection mirror for a fiver, well worth having.

Can't possibly be the right part. Says it fits every engine in the world.  Avoid.

They just pull out of their bores. They can be awkward to get hold of to pull them out though.

On a different note, do you have access to a compressor and blow gun? I only ask because the cavities in my cylinder head were absolutely full of swarf after I got it back from skimming. Looked like it only had the most cursory clean by the machine shop.

Yeah, the whole thing is a pain in the arse but it can be sorted. Mine runs very sweetly now. Don't give up on it :)

You could use a vacuum cleaner to try and get any remaining swarf out of the head.

If you look at this video at about 18:08, he manages to pull one of the lifters out by just using one of the pushrods...

Ah I see right very helpful, there all the way down there are they, umm. It sounds like the sound im having it coming from the top of the engine.. unless this noise travels from vibration, I'll get a screw driver on a few parts tomorrow and try taking the belt off again.. see if it's definitely the engine. See if I can pinpoint where about it's coming from , I guess I could sort of put the screw driver at the front of the engine .. similar to where there located .

A faulty lifter can cause the tappet it controls to become noisy.

I've guessing I wont need to let them bleed out when doing initial setup now as they will be empty? / oil free

Just hope it drives for the next 10 days until I can do the work!

Literally only using it to get to work now, 11 miles away.

Here's a short video of the noise it's making, had to take it round the block for it to start today, normally its right away, and you can see it did stop towards the end of the video, its intermittent, but usually does it more so then not,

after chaining the cam chain and water pump, I didn't experience any noise at all, it was lovely and quiet, this just started happening about a week ago.

Sounds like an old black cab! How many miles has the car done? Hope you get it sorted mate. I was planning to crack on with mine today but hasn't stopped lagging it down all day. Supposed to not rain tomoz so hopefully can get the new wings installed and bumper back on. My lounge looks like a salvage yard 😁

Haha yeah sounds terrible, 122k mate.

I know what you mean about the weather, couldn't happen in summer could it !

I've got no choice other then use it to get to work for the next ten days, just hoping it holds out and doesn't cause any further damage..

Those are from Germany, Mike, so you might have to wait a while for them.

My head gasket went at about the same time of year too. Bloody cars :D

Yeah, I would think you are correct there, new ones should adjust without the need to wait.

That's definitely a tappet.
