Some bare wires and bad connectors in poor conditions

Featured Replies

Hello guys!

in the engine area i have found several cables with its wires exposed, and some (from the alternator), totally disconnected

The alternator has three connections, a big one that it is for a positive, and a small connector with two wires, what is that small connector for? i did repair it but i see the car works with or without it it connected

In other side

please check the following pictures:

Those wires are going to one of the injectors, does its polarity matter? i guess it is a resistance, isn't?

What about this connector? it is so deteriorated that i lose it´s shape and can be connected in any direction. if i disconnect it while the engine is running, the engine will stop, BUT if i start the engine with it disconnected, it will start normally

and if i connected in the other direction, it runs "normal" too..  so, what it is for and which way should i connect it?

There is one wire that has its wires exposed, it is one of the wires that goes to the connector just beside the pump, i guess it is the connector for the pump, i will fix that tomorrow and see what´s happen.

And, what was this?

  • yes yes it does make sense, i got it, and yes i found 1 2 3 in the other side too, i wil make sure it hass good contact with some contact cleaner and some adjustment, thank you!

  • Massive current drain sounds like the PAS pump might be running when it shouldn't. That would affect the idle and the voltage.

The two small wires from the alternator are DFM (load signal to ECU) and the other (blue) is concerned with correct alternator start-up and the battery light on the dash. There is a common location where they break at a plug connection near the gearbox...

As for the rest of it, it's the worst thing ever when someone has been messing about with and butchering wires. Will have another look when not tired.

Could you take a pic of this with the cover off to see which fuse that cut wire is going to?

Is that a 3-position connector or 4? How many wires are there fitted into it and what colours are they?

Position 8 should be radiator fan low speed. It should have a 30 amp (green) fuse.

Well it's looking like someone has messed with the rad fan wiring.

That yellow wire at position 5 (which is radiator fan full speed) has been messed with/added too...

This must be the engine speed sensor connection, also known as crank sensor.

Can you see any pin numbers on the housing of the broken part? If so match pin 1 on broken part to brown wire end. I can just see the numbers in the photo above, on the loom connector close to where the wires emerge, look in equivalent position of other half.

The brown is 0V, the black is cable screen, white is signal. Brown and black may be connected within the engine ECU even though they go in on different pins.

You can probably measure a small resistance between the pins of the sensor that are supposed to connect to pins 1 and 2 of the connector in this photo. Does that make sense? I can draw a little diagram if it doesn't.

the wire i marked with green is the ne supposed to be at the fuse 8, it is connected directly in the upper position of that.. i dont know the name hehehe, so it is not protected

organizing the cables (the two small wires to the alternator were not working properly, the connection was faulty at the connectors you mentioned earlier, i will bypass them.

I found this black, wire disconnected, it looks factory, not adapted and it was cut, not burn or ripped off...  what it is?

Not sure about that one. Insulate the cut end with waterproof tape and investigate further when something doesn't work?

Ah yes, I hadn't noticed that it was bypassing the fuse. So yeah, that's the red wire that's been cut and should be at fuse 8.

I will take advantage i am dealing with wires and will install a small ground kit

  • Author

Uh, I just installed everything, all good but the issue with the lights continue.

One thi g I did notice is that the two big black wires to the positive pole of  the battery got hot in just 3 minutes., not hot that I can not touch, but very warm
