Auto lights high beam assist useless

Featured Replies

You need an A5 Camera.  Your setup doesn't seem to have that camera.

Actually I have come to terms with mine.

If I tap for high-beam but they stay dipped, just tap it again to force high-beam. Pull to dip.

When it's really not working I just turn the lighting switch from AUTO to ON, system reverts to manual high-beam/dip.

On auto it just turns them on when i tap the lever but on my 2012 Touran it turns on the auto high beams. The weird thing is that both cars have the same sensor.

I only have the basic camera (20 not A5) in my Octavia and find that HBA works 'almost' perfectly - it's late dipping maybe one time in a hundred, so we use it all the time.

@varaderoguyWhat makes you think that the A5 camera is needed for HBA? As you can see from my earlier post it also works with the 20 camera on 'my' 2015 Octavia.

So maybe I have that 20 camera? I can try with vcds to activate it but I still don't know if I need to have a Maxidot display.

A VCDS Auto-Scan will tell you...

Nowhere on the internet have I found usefull information about this and I didn't see anyone who has auto high beams on a mk 2 superb, I mean it is an old car sort of but there is nowhere where you can find that info. I can only send pics of the sensor and things inside the car.

That's because it was never a factory option and no superb left the factory with the correct hardware for auto high beams 😉

It is possible to retrofit a high beam assist camera but the rain light sensor is not capable of hba...

Yeah you are probably right and I think so too,the only thing that bothered me was that the Touran with the same sensor has auto high beams and Skoda being a more luxurious car doesn't have one. Thanks for your help guys

It's not the same sensor...

Take a look at this:

The part in red is the rain light sensor (RLS), this is used for auto wipers and auto low/dipped beams. Your Superb probably has this...

The part in yellow is the high beam assist camera and is used for auto high/main beams, your Superb doesn't have this :)

Yeah I tought that white thing on the left next to the rain sensor was the high beam camera and the right side the light sensor

Hey guys I have a Skoda Superb 2011 with a normal underwindshield sensor but my rain sensor and auto high beams are not working. Is there a way to turn them on or are they not installed at all? Here is the pic of the sensor what it looks like...

This is just a rain and light sensor.

To do high beam assist you need to have a front facing assistance camera.

you may have auto dipped bean but this is different

What part numbers are version 20 vs A5.  Are the latter HBA installable in a car that had an older version?

I have a golf mk7 with HBA.  The module is faulty and reports module check sum error from when I bought the car used at 5yrs. But because of the mixed feedback i have never bothered trying to sort it....

My part no. is:

The 20 and A5 mount differently onto the windscreen, so as well as the different camera you need a different windscreen - unless (like some have done) you are happy with a less then 100% secure mounting for the A5.

As PetrolDave mentions, lowline (address 20) and highline (address 5F) camera's are completely different so it's not a simple replacement. Just to add some more context...

Lowline (J844):

Highline (R242):

The highline version typically needs a replacement windscreen as the mount it very different:

CBX RNS510 & Accessories: Passat B8 : Retrofitting Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control

They have different connectors, the highline has a heater and may require a second CAN-bus connection depending on equipment :)

Not a plug and play change I'm afraid...

Thanks @PetrolDave and @langers2k.  As I've come to expect lots of info there....

Mmm. ok. so mine is defo lowline!! And on Golf R bi-xenons and a replacement windscreen I suppose the value in use of the HBA could be .......... variable.... Probably back to putting up with the DTC, error and when using high beam the instrument cluster warning and when lights are on auto no high beam indicator on dash!
