For earlier Mk2 and non FL Mk3, its 5 years or 60k miles. I wouldn't risk my car going to 140k miles. That's just crazy.

That may well be the case for Mk2 (although i thought they were 4 years, but dont really know), but for non FL Mk3 (vrs) Skoda have confirmed it's 5 years or 140k. Although, to be fair, there does seem to be different guidance depending on engine variant and country, and even some variances from different dealers. But either way, 60k is excessively low in my view 

I am done with Skoda dealer servicing. How can they charge £99 for spark plugs (now normally 3, not 4) £139 for aircon servicing (a rise from £79) and £39 for pollen/cabin filter?  They are doing their utmost to discredit what remains of their reputation while dissuading customers to use their services. Taking the Mick comes to mind.

It's 5 years or 60000 miles, whichever comes first. Either way, you are close to the right figure so get it done. If you don't and it fails, you'll wish you had...

It's the 2.0 Tdi he has so it's 140k miles or 5 years.

I'm not disputing you, but how come the 2l has 140k if the 1.6 has 60k? Is the timing belt on those engines made of a different material or something?

Hello Folks,

I am going to be a new member of Octavia family as I am very close to buy an Octavia MK3 in a couple of days. The car is in very good condition indeed, 2013 with 63K mileage on the clock. However, as far as I know, the cambelt has not been done :-0. The current owner which I found him very honest, says he has asked his mechanic to inspect the cambelt in every service. I know it has been overdue so replacing the cambelt would be the first thing I will do. I just want to know would it be safe to do 100K miles to bring it home from the previous owner place?

The 1.6 is 140k as well. I called Skoda and they confirmed it.

£75 for a fuel filter too. I buy the VAG one from my local motor factors for £15 and it takes 5 minutes and a torx screwdriver to change it. Bosch pollen filter, £15 and about 10 mins. How they justify £185 for an oil change is beyond me.

It's 140k miles. I was told the 1.6/2.0 Tdi has the long life belt and tensioners by Skoda customer service. As I said earlier mines was changed at 133k when the car was four years old.

Have posted this a few time, had my 2015 Scout done last year at 75k miles, belt and water pump done at an independent in Malvern for £375. Nearly 1 year later and all good. Would never use a main dealer for major work, would always use a reputable independent.

Have a look at the small writing at the bottom, says petrol & diesel but petrol has a timing chain? Me personally would not change the cambelt at 140,000 miles but rather much sooner especially as this official Skoda document says at 50,000 miles & wouldn't it be better to be safe than sorry :blink: I would change it between the 50,000 - 70,000 mile range or every 5-6 years.

The 2.0L petrol has a timing chain but the 1.0, 1.4 & 1.5 petrols have a timing belt.

Why have Skoda belts got such a short life? Fords recommend 10 years or 100,000 miles. My daughter's Focus Zetec is 10 years old and at 90,000 had the cambelt exchanged and the technician who replaced it said the old belt had no slipes and generally in good condition.

If "Skoda UK" == "Marshall Skoda", I am not surprised. That's the exact experience of mine so far and the impression I have right after one year from the day I started to do business with them. Perhaps, the UK entity is determined to cover the compensations they had to pay for the VW customers due that emission issue; but I too agree that they are trying to rip the customers off as much as they could.

No Skoda UK" = Skoda UK, the importer.

 

Dealers, like Marshalls, should follow the recommendations of the importer - but some choose to regularly try to up-sell.

The 1.0, 1.4 and 1.5 TSi engines ALL have a timing belt which Skoda UK recommend should be changed at 5 years.

 

The 2.0 TSi engine has a timing chain.

when does it need changed and anything else eg waterpump at the same time?

I believe that the water pump change might be good advice if the engine is stripped for a belt change but to be honest in 51 years of motoring I have never had a water pump failure or timing chain failure and both components lasted the life of my ownership
