Selling or Trading In

Featured Replies

With 160k miles on the clock the time has come to think about getting a replacement. Question is whether its worth trading in or selling on.

Car is an Elegance spec car with all the usual bells and whistles but I have been told there is a leak with oil around the turbo (smell of burning oil occasionally) and a couple of other little niggles. Hopefully will be going back to the office eventually so need a comfortable car for the 100m round trip a couple of days a week.

Will probably be buying from a Skoda dealer but what is people's experience of trading in their car? Is it worth going through the hassle of tarting the car up to sell privately or just take the hit on a trade in.

Will be going for an updated model of the same car - tall family and i don't like knees in my back!

Any thoughts from anyone?

I would. I never trade in, ever. Even if it only makes a few hundred quid more, its money in your pocket. Selling can be hard work with some buyers, but I vet them on the phone before viewing to make sure they are serious.

Lots of free places to advetise, well written add and some decent photos, it wont hang around long.

Just see what the offer is with a Dealer, then with WBAC or others that buy and then Briskoda can be a good place to sell a Skoda because people know what they are after.

The dealership employee might just be offering a bit less than they know they (the dealership) can get at WBAC or whoever they go and check what it is worth to them punting it off to auction or someplace else in their motor group.

I would price up the car you are interested in without ever mentioning that you have a Trade In.

Get all the figures, cash or finance and the best deal they are offering.  Get the salesperson licking their lips.

Then when they want to know if you can sign for it that day then say 'What about my car, are you interested'.

Pees them and that 'virtual manager' they have been twice back to the office to get you the best offer right off.
