Delivery times?

The colour is called Titan Blue. It was removed from the configurator a few days after I've placed the order. It has heated steering wheel, window shades in the back, headlight washers, side assist, back seat side airbags, and a few other extras.

Talking of the chip shortage , i bought a mid range graphic card last summer for £230 , ebay are now looking at £500 plus for this card due to short supply. Crazy world indeed!

That is due to crypto mining mostly. Not due to shortage.

Wife wanted titan blue i said i am paying only for the petrol blue 😄(lava blue here)

Actually it is a similar shortage. So many chips are being manufactured on 7nm that they can't produce enough graphics cards AND there are miners buying out everything too, it's a multi-layered problem.

Less than 3 months? Nice

Ordered white manual petrol VRS estate today with panoramic sunroof and winter pack - expected in three months time.  Trade-in (mark III facelift) fixed at £1,000 more than offered last month but new car discount £500 less - so still £500 up from last month.  Thought it would be rude not to place an order!  Had thought about ordering a Golf GTI but Golf looked a bit wee and salesman said would take 7 months for a bog standard (performance) one.  Prefer pace and space of Octavia estate.  This will be my fourth vrs over the years.

Delay with my order....apparently a lack of semi-conductors

... affecting most car manufacturers, and most tech manufacturers too.

Caused by sudden increase in demand post-Covid and made worse by weather problems in Texas and Taiwan.

My dealer told me there has been a fire in the factory where they make the chips and they are working 24/7 but at half capacity due to the machinery being out of action. On top of all the COVID and unpredictability our world is throwing at us.

I ordered my vrs with a few bits in may and Skoda uk are predicting 1st week in November before I receive it!

at least I specked the winter pack. 🥶

Mine has finally been built lol. Ordered week 1 2021, built week 22. Lets see how long it actually takes to arrive now.

Any news? What status code are you currently on?

I was told the same by my dealer regarding fire on one of the chip factories.

That as well as the other reasons I posted means the chip manufacturers don't expect to catch up with demand until late 2022 - which is why President Biden recently held a meeting at the White House to discuss ways of building more chip fabs in the US (trouble is they take years to build at a cost of several billion dollars each so that won't be a short term solution).

Car chips are usually built on older manufacturing process so they're cheaper and can be built quicker. Still takes years, like any factory.

When I was working for a chip manufacturer over 15 years ago the cost of a new fab even than for older processes was in excess of $5bn, and after being built it was taking several months to get the clean rooms actually clean enough after all the building work.

The cost depends on the output doesn't it?  A big factory is obviously going to cost billions and if you want to build it fast you can expect to double that, that's exactly why the shortage isn't going to end any time soon. The dealer has told me that Skoda is delaying the car again. Ordered in December, estimated date is September. skoda will give me money as compensation among other options.

So my VRS was "built" a couple of weeks ago. However it's still waiting additional components to complete the build lol. I guess this is related to the news article above.

Anyone else stuck at this stage?

As am I, it's very frustrating not being able to get a definitive answer as to what's going on.

You have the answer, there is a massive parts shortage and they don't have a clue when what will be delivered.

"I don't know" isn't an answer at all. Telling me my car is built but at the same time saying it's waiting for more parts is a contradictory statement. How can something by built, when it's not finished?

You’re absolutely right. “I don’t know” isn’t an acceptable response and was the reason my patience ran out back in April. Having waited a little longer than I’d hoped, my Formentor is due into the dealer this Friday, so fingers crossed, I should be in a new car sometime in the next three weeks. Some crazy ride these last six months, involving two brands, a global pandemic and a global parts shortage. What a time to try and get a new car!! 🤣🤣🤣

Actually it's a perfectly reasonable answer when you don't actually know. The supply chain has many pieces that are all broken in all kinds of ways. You can blame Škoda for this, but every manufacturer is struggling the same.

Having put my order to the back of my mind for several weeks I emailed the dealer for an update and got a reply with screenshots showing it waiting at the port to be shipped to the UK.

Whether it is complete or not I can't be sure there's lots of info in the screenshots and it does say "In port of exit released".

I ordered week 2, eventually was given a preliminary build date of week 27. Car was built week 23, so fingers crossed I'll have it soon.
