Canton Sound System Upgrade

Recommended Posts

It has almost triple the size of the Canton sub Magnet and is louder, deeper, punchier.

Given that The Canton Sub with Front setting and +3 Sub volume starts to clip at half the volume, the B&O Sub sustains the +9 Volume at any level. This should give you an ideea about the difference.

For comparison, it sounds better than the sub in the Superb 3. Or if you go by an Audi dealer, listen to it in the Q5.

Swap it, it will amaze you.

PS: you will also need a nut and a thread to tighten it. The OE NX3 plastic thread will not fit through the B&O Sub.

Going to keep my eye out for one now!

Is the Audi sub enclosure the same physical size as the Canton? I don't want to have to rearrange my boot to fit it.

For NX3 you will need to ditch the small organizer on top if you have a low/small spare. It is bulkier than the thin Canton.

It fits well in the normal spare.

You can try to move the speaker from one enclosure to the other but I have not tried it and dont know if the speaker will fit and if it does if the Canton box will be enough from air dispersion, volume etc. pov.

It is a real pain to upgrade this picece of .... subwoofer but this is the closest I got to a suitable (even surprisingly satisfying) sound. The 2x100 2x8Ohm is a real pain in the back.

I am really looking forward to your and another colleague that texted me by PM feedback. You should be amazed :)

It desires its pound of flesh for retrofitting and fixing it propperly but it is my opinion that it is well worth it.

For A5/A7 there is no comparison. It literally obliterates the existing stock subwoofer.

So my Audi sub finally arrived. I have a standard boot floor in my Estate. The only thing I had to do to fit the Audi sub was use a bit of threaded bar to replace the plastic spare wheel holder as it won’t fit through the Audi sub. I’ll also have to get some foam to pack above the Audi sub, as it’s slightly taller than the Canton the Jack holder doesn’t sit flush with the boot floor anymore and holder the carpet up slightly. You can’t fit the Audi sub into the canton without butchering it (see photos)

Sound wise there is a noticable difference. You can feel the bass in your chest now. Not the same as for example a proper 10 inch , but it’s louder than the Canton for sure.

I paid £65 for my Audi sub and I’m happy with the results for that outlay. I don’t think I’d pay full RRP for a new Audi sub though.

Thanks to @Internetdivisor for answering my PMs and being the first to post this mod!

Glad to hear that we had the the first success on this!

I am also investigating the sub mod for the iV guys and also the Drop-In speaker to the original Canton Box. From what I have found so far it seems that we have a chance with the Sonavox box from Superb FL 3V0035412.

I have listened to the sonavox (Canton) on Superb and it also sounds right and tight but the positioning of the box is in the far rear corner of the boot. For the iV members this just might be it.

Looking forward to other happy members that got rid of the crappy Canton sub :)

If its of any use to anyone.

Ive fitted the full canton system is a 2018 skoda superb.

Required roughly an additional 140 METERS of new wiring in mostly twisted pairs.

Heres some photos for all interested.

I changed everything over. The B&O sub has the same electrical plug as the Canton.

Nice. Do you have any pic about the new threaded bar and how it holds down everything?
And maybe part number of the Audi sub?

You have it in a post on this thread by yours trully: 80A035382A

Get it, plug it in and...give the feedback here :)

Or nevermind, you have the Sonavox Sub, it is more than enough for you. Don't switch it because the sub comes in the spare, you have the sub on the left side. It won't fit

Wow guys! What a gem the Audi sub swap is promising to be. Read the possibility for this easy swap and quality upgrade. I found a used A5 sub and bought it for 50 euros, 60 including sending it to me. Should arrive in 1 or 2 days and I can’t wait to try it out.

I have a 2021 VRS station/estate, with room for a full spare, at least I think it it. There’s never been an actual spare in it. Hopefully the swap will be easy as I’m not the brightest tool in the shed when it comes to construction and/or electronics.

can somebody make a picture or show an example of my seemingly only step I need to make my self? Aka the thread and bolt? Much appreciated. Will post the results after the swap.

This also made me think…. Aren’t other VAG speakers available which deliver better quality and are as easy to swap for the door, dash and tweeter speakers? Would love to hear what’s possible there?

anyways, thanks again for sharing this. Will share my experience after swapping the sub!

He said he has room for a full spare. The 2021vRS comes with Canton so he is good2go.

The RS comes with a small form 18" spare, a flushed Canton and some toolbox plastic cover so he will fit it.

The screw should be an M8 with a 10 nut and around 7-8 cm in lenght if I remember correctly.

Sad, I have yet to see one without here in RO, but I guess it depends on the importer/dealer and market request on optionals.

It's very rare in the UK. Maybe different regions had different standard equipment?

Lol, I understand the confusion on me having Canton or not. Should have checked better because my sub is delivered today but it seems I don't have Canton 😅. I always thought I did have it because of the center speaker under the windshield. Can someone tell me what my options are now? I'm thinking these:

1. Connect the Audi sub only to original audio system? Is this possible? I know I have the space for it in the back but what needs to be done to get it working on the default audio system? Pull power and speaker cables from front to back?

2. Connect Audi sub and replace front windshield, tweeters and door speakers? I think I will also need an amplifier to handle it all?

3. Get a custom sound system build in.

I like a bit of oomph but I'm not really an audiophile so not keen on spending 1k+ on it. My preference would be option 1 or 2 and have it done at my local car shop which has helped me out for honourable prices before. Can someone tell me if that is possible and what I would need to by and do to get it working?

And yes..... you can all laugh at me for not checking it properly before buying the Audi subwoofer. I did too haha 😂

Neah, nobody is laughing. Confusions happen all the time

Now it depends on your budget, you can go for Match products that come with OE plug and play harnesses, you can go for Vibe/Hifonics, Jbl BassProHub spare wheel subwoofer and so on.

If you are new to this the best way to go is drive to a car Hi-Fi specialist and start there from the budget that starts from ~600 and...well....much higher limits depending on your wallet size.

Regarding the Audi sub, you will surely find a member here that will want it, very soon :)
