Idiots guide to coding for new battery in VCDS.

Featured Replies

I am struggling to get my garage to do the coding for my change of battery from EFB to AGM. He cannot find the where the battery adaption is within VCDS. Could someone give me the procedure right from the beginning after opening up in VCDS, please?

This is does not appear to be any help as it does not give any option for using non-original batteries and changing EFB to AGM.

This mentions the coding

Just did mine using OBDEleven, in the Gateway section. Only options to change were serial number. which was just 1111111111. I changed this to 1111111112. The manufacturer, for some reason was listed as JCB, when the actual manufacturer was Mol. I changed this to VAO. which I beleive is Varta. Next was the technology, changed from EFB to Binary AGM. Oh and the capacity from 69Ah to 70Ah. That was it. The steering left, steering right, turn off turn on then cleared last remaing code which was stop/start.

So, from this.

VCDS coding required
From the Main screen:-
Select Control Module [Select]
[19-CAN Gateway]
Advanced Functions screen:-
[Adaptions-10]
New value choice screen:-
Change the following four channels, inputting the relevant data about the new battery.
IDE03256-MAS06105-Battery adaptation-Rated battery capacity,
IDE03256-MAS06106-Battery adaptation-Battery technology,
IDE03256-MAS06107-Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer,
IDE03256-MAS06108-Battery adaptation-Battery Serial Number,

Battery BEM codes are now redundant with the above separate channels. The most important channels are, Rated battery capacity, Battery technology, & Battery Serial Number. For the Battery Serial Number, just change one digit of the old one. This channel tells the BCM that a new battery has been installed & to relearn the new battery & forget any “learnt values” for the old battery!

Is this correct for a 2016 Octavia and change the technology to "fleece".

I believe some versions are slightly different but on my 2016 Octavia I used this:

VCDS coding required:-
From the Main screen:-
Select Control Module [Select]
Select 19-CAN Gateway [Select]
Check Protocol (Top Left) = UDS
On right hand side off screen under Advanced Functions -
Select Adaptions-10 [Select]
From USD Adaption Select Channel
Select drop down choice menu at top and scroll down too
the following four channels, selecting each in turn and
inputting the relevant data about the new battery.
IDE03256-MAS06105-Battery adaptation-Rated battery capacity,
IDE03256-MAS06106-Battery adaptation-Battery technology,
IDE03256-MAS06107-Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer,
IDE03256-MAS06108-Battery adaptation-Battery Serial Number,

OLD Battery
Capacity     69 Ah
Technology     EFB
Manufacturer    JCB
Battery Serial Number    1111111111

NEW Battery
Capacity     70 Ah
Technology     Binary-AGM
Manufacturer    VAO
Battery Serial Number    1111111112    (increment by 1)

Just done some more research on this Technology setting and most people accross the VW Audi groups are saying that the correct setting for an AGM battery is "Fleece", the cars that came with AGM batteries from the factory are coded as such. According to most, Binary AGM is different than AGM. I have changed mine accordingly.

Thanks Stan, I will add this string to my saved topics.

Thanks to all. Back to my man tomorrow morning.

Just to check on what the forums were saying, I contacted Tayna Batteries which was may battery supplier. This is what they had to say about it. Dear Ian Andrews,

Thank you for your enquiry.

You would use the Fleece setting, Another tech term for AGM batteries :)

Binary is used for Spiral AGM batteries.

Kind regards,
Chris

The correct coding type for AGM batteries is "fleece" and not "binary AGM", as that is a different type of battery altogether.

Pretty much the manufacturer coding does not matter. But as long as the serial number is changed by 1 digit and the battery has the correct AH rating plus it coding as fleece you will be fine.

Got it coded this morning, was already coded as "fleece" even though the original was an EFB, 68amp/h where it was 59, no battery number at all or maker . Changed everything bar the maker but put 11 digits in the number field, will it matter? I think not but open to remarks on that. Skoda don't exactly worry too much how they code the battery originally.

As long as the serial number is different then that will be fine 👍

I'm going to install second battery in the trunk for audio system.  I am thinking about what is maximum capacity of battery what can I buy. Does anyone know what is biggest "Rated Battery Capacity" what can be coded with VCDS?
