Since no-one else has responded, allow me to welcome you.

Bone questions are the speciality here!  The forum has a number of "stickies" at the top which cover many of the recurring issues - and the search function at the very top, although a bit hit and miss, can with perseverance produce results on most things. These cars are 7/8 years old now, so most issues have been addressed over time.

Welcome ba (to use the parlance of your location). Congrats on the new motor!

I miss many about living in Suffolk, but driving there isn't one of them! I've had my fill of flooded, single-lane country roads :)

Welcome and enjoy the new motor 👍

Welcome to the forum, someone will be asking for pictures soon, so get snapping!!

Welcome to Briskoda. Enjoy the Octavia, they are fine cars, whatever the model! And Suffolk is one of my favourite counties!

I know what you mean, luckily I live in Ipswich which usually just means looking out for chavvy drivers in 15 year old beamers on their last legs. My new commute will be the A12 and M25, so perhaps not so lucky!

My first bone question. If I am using android auto to navigate via my phone, will my wife be able to play music via Bluetooth using her phone? If not, it is radio X all the way down 😀

Welcome mate. Spare wheel is an option, and s good one to have. You get the tyre gunk and an inflator otherwise.

Android auto - if you want the screen on for the Mac then AFAIK that means no Bluetooth as you have to select the Media option for that

As above, unless you have Columbus stereo (unlikely in a TDI vrs as it was most likely a commuter tool) you won't be able to have a second Bluetooth connection. AA still uses Bluetooth for calls. Most other stuff is done via cable.

Well, Yes - you can.  It is entirely down to HOW you setup the Bluetooth connectivity.  All FL Octavia's have the soft-touch (no buttons) MIB systems that support Bluetooth 4.0 protocol.  On that basis, to get your wife's mobile to play its music, both phones must also support BT4.0 [anything about 2-3 years old should be fine], you must setup the MIB system to accept audio as following:

OP's mobile - setup a Bluetooth connection, DISABLE A2DP audio connection (you can only make phone calls)

Wife's mobile - setup a Bluetooth connection, ENABLE A2DP audio connection (you can make phone calls and listen to audio).

Android Auto takes more resources and also has its own platform which doesn't support more than just its own connection.

So we’ve just done a 700 mile round trip today to pick up my daughter and the car didn’t skip a beat. A few initial impressions;

It’s fast and munches up the motorway miles with ease although I must be be careful with my right foot! More importantly it was also a very comfortable ride, especially with the lumbar support.

The built in Sat nav has a few weird phrases, almost as if English is not its first language. That said the map screen was easy to use and follow but I suspect google maps will be used in future.

The sound system is ok, which is ok because after reading reviews and comments on this site, that is all I expected. Improving this might be something I look into in the future.

Rear parking sensors and as someone who nearly always reverse parks probably all I need but when doing the supermarket shop and requiring easy boot access I front park. Front sensors might be a useful addition in future.

Finally, how do you know when the dpf is regenerating? At no point during the journey did I notice a difference in revs or engine response, although I wasn’t particularly looking out for it either.

Generally when driving you wont notice a passive regeneration. You will only know it is doing an active one if the car idles at 1000rpm for any length of time. You may also smell a hot burnt rubber smell aswell.

Might I suggest that if you press and hold MENU, then go into the Version information, take a photo of the information presented on the screen - there maybe a fix to the slightly dull sound by a firmware update.  There are lots of options to enable - including enabling Skoda Surround.

Cruise control is the answer.

English *isn't* the nav's first language. German instructions are better.  No "in 300 yards please turn right", it's "in 300m turn right". It's an instruction, why's it phrased as a request?

There's a very good reason I use Here and Spotify: they work together across Bluetooth and generally give decent directions. I had the builtin nav on a rental once and despised it. Also don't need to cable anything unless it's for power.

Is this what you mean?

Okay. You need 0478 and I will.tag @pab567
who will hopefully be able to send you the appropriate file.

So @Al123
are you happy with what to do with your firmware file. I have written a guide on how to apply it if you need assistance.

Varaderoguy, thank you. I’ve read your guide and must admit to being a bit of a technophobe. Do you know if I need a specific program to extract the file on a windows 10? I think the only part I’m confused on is how to create a separate directory?

Luckily I already own a battery charger too.

I know that @langers2k
did document on how to extract files onto an SD Card. @Al123
If you are stuck, let me know and for a small fee, I'll prep up a SDcard with the firmware update on it and send it down (no warranty thought) 😀
