Fabia Mark 2 Monte Carlo: 1.6 tdi or 1.2 tsi

Featured Replies

Hello

I’m 19 living in Bristol at the moment and I’m looking at buying my first car. So far my two choices are the two Monte Carlo’s, both 105bhp.

I’m not sure whether the diesel or the petrol one is a better choice.

I’ve chosen these two as they’re cheaper and seem to be the best first car in my eyes.

Unless you're doing a lot of mileage the petrol is a better choice for the lower servicing costs and no DPF issues.

If you go for the petrol make sure its a 2012 or newer. The 1.2tsi from before late 2011 have a known timing chain issue.

If I could go back in time I would go for the diesel.

Most of them should have been sorted by now though.

If you intend on getting a diesel stay away from dieselgate fixed ones. Diesels good for being able to easily remap for good gains. The tsi ones are meant to be good too but I own a tdi one so dont have any firsthand experience with the petrol ones.

How would you know if one is dieselgate fixed?

You can check the vin on a website and it'll tell you if its been done or not. Found out mine was done that way. I'm sorry I cant remember the website itself but I imagine some googling would bring it right up. Dieselgate cars had software changes and a 'flow transformer' installed between the airbox and maf.

I can only speak for the 1.6TDI, I have recently had it remapped....... it is amazing now, but then again it was the 75bhp version ! So anything is an improvement, I am getting around the 145bhp with around another 60 torques. It is simply safer for me to exit junctions and enter motorway slip roads. I would thing it depends on the kind of driving you do and if you need the fuel consumption.

a remap doubled the BHP ?????????? :wondering:

From what I have come to learn, most places doing remaps on 1.6 remap to 140-145hp as a 'stage 1' map. Mines a 105 and its mapped to 140. Isnt the only physical difference the size of the oil cooler between the Caya,Cayb and Cayc?
