So hi everyone.

I have a remapped vrs tdi which is about 235 to 240 ( awaiting dyno figures to be sure) and i would like a bit more turbo howl, woosh, owling whatever people call it. my reasons are i like the noise and i am using my car as a mobile advert hence more noise more attention.

It has basically standard barring the flash map.

How is it possible to get a bit more noise out of the turbo, i know the exhaust helps etc but tonight i heard an a3 tdi howl like mad when he changed gear?

I know ill get the whole "why do you want this" beef but a different hat for every head and all that.

I am genuinely after some help with this please.

what car is it? mk1 mk2 ...

changing the exhaust on a tdi is not very effective without removing cat &  DPF which will then fail a MOT,  even then sound wise it won't sound sporty.

possibly a cold air  induction might help with some noise but you wont get any performance gains so quite expensive for just a little noise.

best way get a bigger turbo

Gissin,

It's a mk3 mate and I was think that way bit wasn't to sure if there was a different option if you like.

If you want howling and whooshing you have a few options, mostly around air intake to allow more induction noise, that or buy a wolf?

As above. Remove the airbox and fit an open cone style filter intake.

Ok is that the best option then?

These work for mobile advertising and if you go up peoples street with this noise you will annoy about the same amount of people that the A3 TDI's howl does.

Turbo muffler delete? Do you have one?

Edited by Legion

I was ghosting through some country lanes, when my reverie was disturbed by something coming up fast behind.

I think it was a renault 5, definite turbo noise as they lifted off the accelerator, suddenly it was behind me feinting

at my boot lid. I goosed the Monte (safety in mind) and left it behind only to have it catch up and start again.

I must admit I liked the sound and found myself thinking about sporty noises 😁😁

I have one.

You can only really hear the Turbo working under hard acceleration.

with standard gear you wont get anywhere near 240 with just a remap and anyone telling you that is, well, "mistaken" (according to Darkside), I have seen Torquetronics remap a stock vRS TDI to 240BHP on the dyno so the skoda must have some differences than the Golf GTD? so im a bit confused

the stock turbo limits the MKIII TDI to 210-max, Darksides remap of the stock engine made 209bhp. Exhaust gas temps are a big limiting factor

My upgrades include a Darkside DPF delete, 4BAR rail sensor,Sports cat down pipe, Full Stainless Twin Exhaust, GTB2260VRK turbo upgrade MUCHBOOST. Stage 3 tune. I'm limited by fuel delivery so a CP3 is the next modification. This has probably cost me around £5K including tuning time so far.

Im sitting at 260ish. most of the power delivered around the 2500rpm range

this is probably the best description of the CUPA/CUNA 184 TDI and its max BHP with 10K spent...

Ryan does a great job of explaining the design limitations.

if you want noise get the kufatec active sound generator.... (milltek) are doing them too

best of all you can turn it off when you want.

Initially thought this was a bit of a gimmick like the Renault Clio creating different engine sounds in the cabin or the Turbo Zet...but it actually looks like a serious bit of kit...and thinking about it, we like motorsport engine note sounds, and how they come with performance and the indication of performance.

But tbh, if your car is fast enough and you don't want to bother spending a load of money on a replacement exhaust part, then this is a bit of realistic solution...although the price does shifts it close to the replacement back-box territory.

The noise doesnt come from inside the cabin its from underneath the car. I had one member comment that he heard me 400 yards away :) across the car park and it sounded sweet

I have to say its hands down the best thing i've spent money on the car, and ive spent A LOT of money on this car.

the sound is impossible to differentiate from a real exhaust as the unit exits near the genuine exhaust and you will NEVER get anything like this note on a diesel nvm a petrol.

Ive noticed milltek are now doing a version too.

The fact it can be completely switched off makes it worth the money alone. I have a full stainless system twin back box same as the TSI with a different 3" DP.... all i get is a small turbo whistle. I dont think i could stand the drone from a resonator delete.

I dont really do the unit justice in this vid as it was just installed and i was trying out the bog standard settings.

Realise the sound is external; I just meant other examples of gimmicks.

Now that’s annoyingly tempting. Not surprised Milltek are trying to get on it; can see it’s basically a device to genuine create exhaust sound rather than artificially recreate it. Did you fit it yourself? Is it easy to do?

Fit a conical foam air filter, one of those ridiculous waste gate dump/blow-off valves that whistle when you change gear, and a crackle & pop remap.

That should get you plenty of attention, however be careful what you wish for.

You can also cheat, if you're so inclined.

All of the above are abhorrent to me, but I'm happy to help. :)

Reading further down that thread, I see this.

Now that IS cool.
