Hi Awahwah

No, they new about the issue. I thought the SOS alert instructing me to return the car to the workshop was to get the new 1803 software update. Sadly not, on arrival they advised that the SOS alert may not be resolved as they were waiting for the new update from Skoda. But they would book the car in and load the latest software updates (although the system was slow). Screen still locked in loading settings mode! I suspect the SOS alert was just another one of those software glitches.

Well I hope they sort it for you.

People have the same issues with all cars in the VAG group.

Can you tell me the names/URLs of some these forums?

If it is that widespread then there is some hope it will get fixed since the alternative is that VAG goes into terminal decline starting with the 8th generation.

Mine is back in the shop again for 5 days this time while they try to find fixes for the three faults in the infotainment system.

I wish the reviews, including the many on Youtube, would mention these issues but I suppose they are only given cars that do not exhibit the faults.

Thanks. I had searched myself and found that one. It confirms that VW owners have these issues too although they do not seem to be as vocal as the Skoda owners on this site.

The reviewers tend to gloss over these issues as minor software glitches.  I’ve seen video reviews where they experience the faults and just ignore them.  They don’t live with the vehicle and it’s not really in their remit or interest to highlight these niggles it would seem.

Ok, so sent an email to Skoda Fareham to register my concerns about the SOS issue and frozen infotainment system, and the lack of resolution after visiting the workshop.

I was advised that the update provided at that time was for another system not the SOS infotainment crashes. They are awaiting the software to fix the SOS glitches and have received them for some of their other models but not the Octavia ( well not my vin series), the issue is an open job card against my car and when Skoda release the update for my Vin number they will contact me. In the meantime I have to live with no infotainment system.

Andy T60 has hit the nail on the head (or right into the lid of the Octavia coffin) - controlling almost everything via the infotainment system shows that the car is ‘too clever for its own good’  imho.

Quick update.

Alancha - provided an interim fix for the SOS fault that unfreezes  the infotainment system.

Basically press the emergency call red SOS button above your head, press ignition and you will hear a voice giving you an option to cancel - press the red SOS button to cancel the call at this point and within a very short time the infotainment system flashes up as normal.  It worked for me and hopefully will last until the software fix is available.  I think engaging and then cancelling the SOS call cleared the related glitch and allowed a system reset.

I am surprised the garage didn’t know about this.

Too much ‘rocket science’ involved nowadays….

Hello guys, greetings from Greece. I got a SOS message today when I was 60klm away from home (while I was already been driving for almost 200klms).

I stopped the car to get a coffee and then ... All errors appeared.

Park assist, lane assist, front break assist...electric mode ....and then SOS.

When I stopped the car Ive had 18% battery when I started again it was showing 10% , then after few klms (with all errors there) it went to 7...then 1... I don't know if I have to charge it now or wait for the workshop to check it...
